why? as it is, we are already very deep at the forward position. so we should trade d depth + prospect for more forward depth? As it stands, we currently have just about the perfect d depth. this is what gillis has wanted on our d, he has said so many times. If our D is creating more offense, than our forwards will too. I honestly believe if cs is traded, it will be for a high draft pick, or young defenseman to fill in the holes left by schneider/salo in a few years.

Yes, i realize that he was brought up for a stint last season...but a huge part of goaltending is the mental game, and in that respect, last year's callup was about the worst possible situation. I mean, he was called up in the midst of a bit of a team crisis. Our allstar goaltender was injured...quite severely, Sanford was pretty much dropping the ball, Vancouver fans are incredibly enthusiastic about their prospects and there was that undeniable hope/expectation that he would be our miraculous 'savior' in that situation, and essentially...he had the weight of the entire team on his shoulders. On top of that...the team was already mired in a bit of a massive streak of failure and losing, even Luongo coming back had trouble getting things back on track. And the games he was thrown into were far from the easiest. The Sharks? Not exactly a pushover of a team at that point.
So basically, about the opposite of what you'd want in an introduction to the NHL as a goaltender. And yes, he didn't perform miracles, let in some soft goals, made a few costly mental errors...he did make some pretty spectacular saves at times, but the thing that impressed me the most about him, was his response to the whole thing. You could tell he was frustrated. Just like Luongo...you could tell that he really WANTED to stop EVERYTHING, and it upset him that he couldn't and that he made mistakes. He'll learn from that experience and hopefully come out stronger for it. The most impressive part of the whole situation is, after being dumped on like that...he went back to the AHL and didn't falter...lead his team to the finals. THAT is what seperates him from a lot of other goaltending 'prospects' out there. His determinination and will to win, and mental toughness and ability to bounce back and learn from mistakes.
Anyway, this is turning into quite the rant i guess...
I just hope and assume that this year, he will be given a chance to be introduced to the NHL again, in a much more hospitable environment. I'm hoping that they bring him up for a few little stints in the NHL, much like what teams like Atlanta did with Pavelec, and Boston did with Rask. Just let Schneider come up and get some games under his belt and start to adjust to the NHL pace and intensity...without throwing him to the wolves, asking him to save a struggling team and pull them out of a deep slump. Let him have a mental 'safety net' there in the form of Luongo being ready to take the reigns if things get out of control. Give him some solid defensive and scoring support and reasonable opponents to build his confidence and let him feel out the 'next level' of play.
/rant.

off the top of my head I can think of:
Detroit - Osgood is getting old in age, and I dont think the team or fan base has high hopes for Howard.
San Jose - after Nabakov they do not have a top tier goalie prospect, maybe Greiss but I doubt it.
Chicago - possibility, Crawford is not really living up to potential and Huet is madly inconsistent.
Philly - A good fit here, if Emery does not work out they are screwed. If he does, Emery demands a raise an they still get screwed. No goalie prospects worth mentioning.
Calgary - long shot, division rival. But Kipper has been declining for the past few years.
Dallas - traded away the "heir" to Turco in Smith.
Phoenix - Bryz is young but a 1a/b might be more appealing to them. Montoya has not been promising.
New Jersey - Marty B will be playing 1 or 2 more years before hanging them up. With his old age and scrambling style of play, their next goalie and successor is needed as injuries are likely to occur.
For a most favorable return in a trade, Schneider would need games ( and great results ) to get a favorable return. But an injury to a team like NJ,CHI, or DET could force a hand at a trade. But so could an injury to Luongo again, Schneider steps up to fill the void - performs incredible and boosts value.

With training camp two days away, the veterans skated at UBC's Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre today.
“We’re all sick of the bike rides. We want to start getting in some real practices and getting some contact.” said Ryan Kesler.
Notably absent, net minder Roberto Luongo opted for some dry-land practice as he rode the bikes above the arena. In addition, twenty-three year old Cory Schneider suited up for practice. The first round draft pick played 8 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season (2-4-1) and finished with a 3.88 GAA and a .877 save percentage.
“You get out here [and the level and the pace] is a little bit different but I feel good. Excited to be back and hopefully make a difference” said the netminder who spent part of his summer taking classes to finish up his degree. “We had a good year last year; hopefully we can build on that. I’ve worked hard and I’m ready to make that jump.”
In 40 games last season with the Manitoba Moose, Schneider recorded 28 wins and 10 losses for a 2.04 GAA and a 0.928 save percentage.
wait a minute, somethings not adding up here lol.

he played in 8 games, but came in for relief in a loosing effort where the loosing goal was already scored, so the loss was not charged to him, it was charged to the original goaltender.
He was AMAZING tonight, made some insane saves. He showed why he should be a NHL starter tonight.

No provocation intended here, just wondering what his trade value is to you, or anyone?
I think Cory Schneider alone is worth a 2nd round pick, maybe a first rounder from a team expected to finish higher in the standings that needs a keeper (Chicago, Detroit).
