Captain Luongo letting Canucks Nation down

http://www.calgaryherald.com/Sports/Captai...2109/story.htmlBy Bruce Dowbiggin, For The Calgary Herald

Quotes:

"Call it bad luck, call it fate, but the Flames have found themselves stymied by netminders who are at the top of their game. That will likely not be the case tonight in Vancouver."
...
"To the consternation of Vancouver management and fans, their best player simply hasn't stepped up as advertised. Luongo's erratic play largely escaped criticism while the Canucks' forwards and defenceman were red-hot in their 20-5-1 streak. The whiffs and bobbles were written off to rust from the extended six-week stay Luongo spent on the injury list. Give 'im time, they said.

Well, time has passed, but with the club slumping to three straight losses as they head into tonight's showdown with Calgary at GM Place, followers of the Canucks are coming to the uncomfortable conclusion that Vancouver may have to win in spite of their highly paid goalie. Holy Stan Smyl, could it happen at a worse time for fans of the Orcas? (Or a better time for Flames' fans?)"

"Demitra gets his share of flak lately--as does gaffe-prone defenceman Alex Edler. But the buck stops with No. 1 in Vancouver's net. How he shows up tonight will go a long way to deciding if Vancouver starts the playoffs at home or in a hostile venue such as Chicago. Either way, he'll be sure to hear about it from Canuck Nation, a group that Valium was made for."

"Despite his reasonably successful season, Burrows is a career AHLer."

This coming from the team that puts Kipper in a backpack and carries him to a win every game?

By disses you mean tells it like it is?
I'm sorry, but you seriously can't say that Luongo has been playing his best hockey these past few games, can you?

That seemed reasonably accurate to me, except the Canucks nation needing Valium part. It should have been Ritalin.

Nothing wrong with that article at all.

Sure would be nice if Edler starts playing like a NHL defenseman again.

Nice to know how much people on the Canucks forum appreciate their team! Sure, the Canucks did look like a PeeWee AA team against the Avalanche, but that's still no reason to be dissing them. I'd rather see them go in a minor slump just before the Playoffs rather than during the Playoffs. Let them get their last minute kinks and jitters out before they get to the dance.
And yes, the "Flamers" do ride Kipper like a town bicycle, but worry not.....it will bite them in the end.....once again. A tired Kipper will falter come Playoff time as the tradition continues. Keenan will be sent home crying after his team committed to one of the stupidest trades at the trade deadline of all time!Posted Image

Most of the stuff he said is the truth. However, it still annoying. With that said, Bruce Dowbiggin is seriously one of the biggest douchers we have in Calgary. I remember when he blasted Don Cherry a few years ago about his work with the soldiers overseas or something.. I wouldn't take it personal, Dowbiggin is a complete moron. All the Canucks can do is win tonight and make him eat his words.
Double the NHL games on Sportsnet in Alberta... Too bad I have to watch the Flames and Oilers.

I like how when Lui first came back we all assumed he was going to play himself into shape and didnt worry about it at all....well now theres 3 games left...he lets in 1-2 sh*tty goals a game, hes not on his game right now. yes, the truth does hurt, but you think Iginla went like 12 games without a goal, thats a little worse for a superstar like him than lui letting in a few bad ones. All i can say is I hope things turn around.

Luongo will be fine, and that article is "fail" on so many levels.

There is some truth to the article, but the same can be said for Kipper and the Flames. These two teams mirror each other all too well in many aspects (last 10 game record is almost identical for both), none the least of which is the reliance on their number one netminder to come up big consistently if they're going to succeed.

Its going to be a battle.

This of course is written by the same guy who says the talent levels of the the two teams aren't even comparable......

They've ridden Kipper, supposedly won the deadline sweepstakes, Luongo sucks, Edler and Demitra have been a disaster, we lost 9 home games in a row, and yet, when we win in regulation tonight, we'll be tied in points with the Flames. When we were 13 back at the beginning of February. Kiprusoff or Luongo, who really sucks?
