The Canucks have signed defenseman Evan Oberg from U of Minnesota-Duluth (see http://www.sportsnet...ks_sign_oberg/).
I do not personally follow the NCAA at all and I'd love to know what we have to look forward to in this guy and what everyone's thoughts are on the signing so please share :)
The day has only just begun and already your mind has snapped like a dry and brittle twig...

Foppa is still coming, just not this year. He called Joe Sakic and they agreed to both sign with the Canucks on the cheap next year for one last Stanley cup run together. They decided to wait to let all the injuries heal and to get back into game shape.

This guy was a HUGE reason why Minnesota-Duluth, who finished 7th out of 10 teams in the WCHA regular season, won the WCHA conference tournament sending them to the national championship tournament. And of course, in the West Regional semifinals versus Princeton, how can you not like this clutch effort with 0.8 seconds left in the game (skip to 3:00)...

Go to Hastings & Main 3 AM, go to the pay phone booth, you will receive a call, you will be asked to pick up a package from Surrey. You will deliver this package to a man named Antonio in Seattle. Go to Pike Street Market after you deliver the package. A man will approach you with a sealed envelope, DO NOT open the envelope. Take this envelope to a man named Rodriguez in The Republic of Congo, while flying back from The Congo, you flight attendant will give you a bag of peanuts, DO NOT EAT THE PEANUTS. Deliver the package of peanuts to a woman in Wyoming named Lucy. Upon delivery Lucy will give you a small burlap sac. Do not look inside the sac. Take the sac to the courthouse in downtown Vancouver. Leave the sac there. Then go to the pay phone outside the Revolving Restaurant downtown and wait for a Black Lincoln Town car to park in front of you. Get inside. Ask no questions. You will be taken to a house in Burnaby. Knock on the door. A man named Stojanov will present you with a Taylor Pyatt rookie card, signed. That is the only way I know of how to get an autograph, or you could wait outside GM Place.

Good signing. Evan Oberg - HockeyDb.com : not bad numbers either. And in his second year of college, thats not bad either. 7 Goals, 20 Assists in 43 games this year. He's a decent hight (6') but he's tiny (165lbs). Should do well playing for the Moose next year. Hopefully he gains experience and can make the jump. Based on the video it looks like he has some offensive prowess.

Gillis will hopefully draft the BPA.
And Gilroy is always available, although word is he wants a whole lotta dough. But hey, I'll believe it when I see it.

AS A BULLDOG: Appeared to be headed for a breakout freshman season before suffering an ankle injury in early November which knocked him out of action for two months and some one dozen games ... returned to the Bulldog lineup on Jan. 11 and didn't miss a shift the rest of the way ... had one goal (the game-winner in UMD's 3-2 road triumph over Michigan Tech) and two assists as a rookie ... he and senior Travis Gawryletz were paired up more times (13) than any other Bulldog blueline tandem last winter. BEFORE UMD: Put a huge exclamation point on his Canadian junior league playing days in the spring of 2007 by landing the Top Defenseman Award at the prestigious Royal Bank Cup ... helped lead the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff champion Camrose Kodiaks to the semifinal round of the Royal Bank Cup (Canada junior A national tournament) while topping all Kodiak blueliners in post-season points with 14 in 16 games ... pumped in nine goals -- six of which came on the power play -- and added 14 assists for 23 points in 52 regular season outings that year ... participated in the 2006 World Junior A Challenge as a member of Canada West, which won the inaugural six-team event ... debuted with the Kodiaks in 2005-06 and finished the year with 15 points, including 13 (four goals and nine assists) during a 44-game regular season stint ... was a member of the South Division Top Prospects Team as an AJHL Rookie ... is the fifth Kodiak product to enlist his services with the Bulldogs over the past five years, joining among others, senior center MacGregor Sharp, former two-time team captain and 2008 graduate Matt McKnight and 2006-07 All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association first team left wing Mason Raymond, who left the UMD program last spring following his sophomore season to sign a contract with the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks. PERSONAL: Born Evan James Oberg on Feb. 16, 1988 in Camrose, Alberta ... is the son of Jim and Heather Oberg ... has two older siblings (Justin and Lindsay) ... graduated from Forestburg High School in 2006 ...is a health education major at UMD. UMD site says 180, I'd go with that number over anything else.

I am excited and confident that under the current Canuck regime, Oberg will be developed to his full potential. A good offensive defenseman.
