I know he hasn't played a game for the moose yet, but is oberg with the team, similar to sauve and ellington?

I hope ellington can get a game in if Arniel was going to shake up his roster

Oberg has not signed an ATO yet, don't think he will join until next season.

NO.

Oberg was a freshman last season while Raymond was playing with the Canucks.

Ah. Thanks, I was too lazy to hockeydb it. It's vaguely interesting that they both played for Camrose and Minny-Duluth though.

Somebody in Camrose (like the coach) probably has some connections with UMD.

Oberg's blog from the Moose (and Canucks) website:

He talks about the sleep program the Canucks are running, how he was a 'nucks fan growing up, idolizing Bure, despite growing up in Alberta, and how Lidstrom inspired him (somewhat) to become a defenseman.

Quote

Sleep, strategy and Bure

This morning was really interesting, we started with a session about sleep and getting enough and how it affects our performance on the ice. I didn’t really know how much it does affect me but it really does. They were saying how sleep directly affects your reaction time so the more you sleep or the more well-rested you are, the quicker you react.

I usually get about eight hours of sleep, which is what they recommend so at least I’m on the right track. Although, I admit that I sometimes sleep too much on weekends – but generally I’m pretty good.

Something else from that session that was really interesting is when you nap, if you nap too long, you wake up in a deep sleep and that is actually worse for you. Your sleep cycle works every 90 minutes so when you wake up, you were only in a light sleep and is more effective. That’s something I never knew before or even really thought about so that was good to learn and something I can start to change now that I know.

Then we did another on-ice session for about an hour and a half just working on some flow stuff on the ice and getting used to your feet and the puck again. We didn’t do too many systems right now, did a little bit of d-zone stuff but mostly just trying to get us comfortable on the ice again.

They’ve been stressing to us to keep our stick on the ice to break up passes, especially now in the pro game, it’s a lot faster so they can get the puck through the seams so keeping your stick aware is very important.

We followed up the on-ice session with another workout with Roger – nothing really too interesting there.

So a couple of people are asking about whether I grew up a Flames fan and you’d be surprised to know that the answer is no, I wasn’t. But I think what you’ll probably like more is that I actually grew up a Canucks fan.

The first hockey game I ever went to was Vancouver vs. Edmonton in Edmonton when I was 9 or 10 (I think) and Pavel Bure was my idol. I still remember that day very clearly, my uncle took me to the game and we were waiting near the dressing room and when the security wasn’t around, my uncle snuck me in. I actually got Bure’s autograph that day and it was one of the best days of my life. I got my Canucks hat signed by and it’s probably one of my most prized possessions still.

It wasn’t too bad being a Canucks fan in Alberta where I grew up because my hometown is about halfway between Calgary and Edmonton so I didn’t hear it too much from the kids growing up.

Aside from Bure, I also looked up to Nick Lidstrom when I was a little bit older and converted to a d-man. I was a forward growing up until second year midget, so I was 17. The reason I switched was because we had a really low roster on defence and my coach said I skated the best backwards so he moved me there Luckily, I adjusted and liked it and the rest is history.

Now it’s just getting ready for Edmonton tomorrow and hopefully we do well over there and I’ll try to blog if I can!

There are tonnes of people in Sweden named Öberg, but like the website says, Oberg can also be a German name (but this is less likely).

EDIT: minor grammar correction

Very impressed with Oberg so far. Great speed. He needs to bulk up, but i can see him being a big part of the Canucks in the future. Glad Gillis picked him up.
