Hockeysfuture.com still has Filatov ahead of Hodgson on their top prospects (#3 and 4 respectively).

Who cares what a site says? Filatov may be a better goal scorer than Hodgson but, Hodgson is the all around best prospect out there right now.

had Filatov been playing in the CHL last year, Hodgson would more than likely rank above him

its because he played in the RSL and AHL last year, which is a better measuring cup as to what he can do at the NHL level, than Hodgson playing in the OHL (juniors)

Also, drafting Canadian boys is a good idea because Hodgson has a hell of a lot more talent than any Russian prospect out there right now.

There are probably more than 5 Russian prospects with more talent than Hodgson. Hodgson is not terribly talented. IMO Filatov is more talented, better offesively and a better NHL prospect than Hodgson, who is the better rounded, better junior player. Their ceilings aren't even close.

That's your opinion, and it may be true, but it's pretty close. It's a lot closer than what you first said:

Teams that had a more successful year than the Canucks:
Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes...
...That's it.

What if Filatov played in the CHL and beat out Hodgson for player of the year? He scored almost as many goals/game than Grabner (and far more PPG) as an 18 year-old AHL'er.

At this point, Nikita is more of a lock to become an impact player in the NHL than Hodgson. I don't doubt that they both will be, and would take Cody if I had to choose, but I bet many GM's would take Filatov.

he isnt worth the money he wants

from what ive heard, his defense isnt too good

He may very well be worth the money... just not the risk.

Also - he doesn't seem to care like Trevor did. He had better get hot quickly to preserve any of the dwindling respect anyone has for his abilities. He needs to prove that he's even a starter.

and rightfully so..

how did this come in the Koltsov thread?

Kirill will never be a canuck.
Canucks could sign him, but i assure he would not be an impact player right away. It will take him some time, and people would have to patient with him. Something Canucks fans just dont show. Meaning it would be a mistake if Koltsov ever decided to come to Vancouver, as he too will only want a one way contract.

It is time to forget about him; he is going to be a KHLer

Malkin. Semin. Ovechkin. Kovalchuk.

I brought it up b/c a guy was claiming that Hodgson is a far better prospect than any Russian ones.

If this year's Hart trophy nominees don't tell people that Russians are worth looking into, then there's no hope for them.

Russian hockey is all about skill. Too bad they have the resources (ie. $$$) to keep players at home. Otherwise, we'd see
more of them rising up and shining like the Ovechkin, Malkin, and Datsyuks of the world.

What does it matter what his teeth look like?
Are we going to sign a player based on their teeth now?

Haha he looks like the judge from "so you think you can dance". I hate my girlfriend for causing my brain to make such a comparison.
