Good, you guys are thinking just like me.

hodgson +- +41
tavares +- +10

voted hardest woker, best faceoff guy, best penalty killer all with Tavares playing in the same league. Did cody really improve that much? Also it seemed like Cody was the best player on team canada(no bias) even with tavares on the same team.

I believe he has improved that much. watching them both play on team Canada, you could see that Cody was the better all around player. With that being said neither has played one game yet in the NHL, so to say that one is better than the other is a little unfair. Personally I do believe that Cody is the much better player and Tavares will not live up to the hype. He will do well but the pressure that will be on him as the #1 pick will be alot worse than the pressure on Hodgson.

Nope, the sedins are replaceable and it will be no BIG DEAL if they leave. The notion of a rebuild without the sedins is ridiculous. They're not superstars or anything. They're complementary players who can be replaced easily.

Hodgson has much better leadership. But Tavares is more offensively skilled, but maybe not by much :)

If hodgson was to be drafted this year rather than last year,

where do you think he would go?

I would say he would be ranked right after hedman.

I don't think age is a huge factor because Cody is only 8 months older than Tavares (same year, 1990)

JT has more offense than Cody,

but Cody is more of a all around player, which I think is better than a sniper.

wouldn't someone that is going to be the first overall pick be the player of the year, cause i don't get why cody won that award when everyone is on JTs bandwagon?

They had very close numbers but Cody was way better +/- then JT was....CH was like +45 and JT was only +10

Tavares can only score, that's it. When he's not scoring, he doesn't bring anything else to the table. Cody can be on all situations of the ice. He can score and penalty kill. Cody also brings a tremendous amount of leadership.

No. He's not way better, he isn't even slightly better. Taveras wishes he was as good as Hodgson.

Taveras can score goals and that's about it.

Where did he go in the OHL playoffs? Nowhere.

Who set up him up for 90% of his goals in the WJHC? Hodgson.

Taveras is an arrogant douche, who only cares about himself. He had a temper tantrum before last years draft because he wasn't draft eligible therefor going to "miss out on millions of dollars"?
1 of only 4 remaining NHL Arenas that Martin Broduer has a LOSING record in is General Motors Place.

They will both be All-stars a few years down the road.

Taveras has more ability then Hodgson, but since C. Hodgson will be playing for the Canucks, he will always be cooler -- making him better.

Nevertheless, it's good to have both as future Team Canada skaters.

Tavares is more skillful and a much better sniper, Hodgson is better at everything else. (including skating)

I think 72 goals as a 16 year old speaks for itself.
Tavares had nowhere else to go but down from there in the OHL.
Is it that people started to figure out how to stop him (still almost 2ppg after though), that he lost interest, or that he played with worse linemates (look at his numbers with London compared to Oshawa... 32g in 24 games!!)?
I still say that he scores 60 in his first year in the big show though.

Though most Canuck fans will hate to admit it Tavares is the type of dynamic offensive player that comes once every decade its just that he will only truly show his potential on the biggest stage and with a good supporting cast.

Hodgson is a prime example of a player that would best suit the 'supporting cast' role, and probably all the more credit to him that he is unnasuming enough to potentially do so.

I read somewhere that Hodgson plays a more all round game. If Taveras isn't scoring, he contribute nothing to the team... so I guess Taveras is more one dimensional... However, Taveras is a really good pure goal scorer...

Tavares is akin to Ovie, while Hodgson is more like Crosby, in this context.

Just to stir the pot in a thread where there will be widespread agreement.

i'd say more like ovechkin light (ovie has better all around skills than tavares), but the comparison still stands. except hodgson doesn't whine and cry or punch guys in the nuts from behind.

I highly doubt it,

he's going to have a big adjustment to the NHL where he cannot get by on skill and strength alone. His skating weakness will be exposed by NHL defenseman. Ovechkin, Crosby and Malkin were All-Stars right away because of their balance of skating, strength and skill.

What is in Tavares's favor is that playing for the Islanders will allow him to ignore his defensive responsibilities and he will face porous Eastern defensive system. I would not be surprised if he gets 35 goals and is a -30 next year.
