Maybe it's justbecause I have penises on the mind, but I'm seeing a penis in your display picture. It's also green, which is a little unusual.

Sounds like a guy that could end up going a lot higher than 25th. I think he was also voted the Academic Player of the Year. So yeah, if he's still sitting there at 22, expect Gillis to draft him.

Maybe we'll be able to move up using that pick. I just hope this pick turns out well, like Kesler did.

In a lot of other drafts, he probably could go top 16. but there really isn't a point where the talent level drops off in this draft, at least not early (I don't know much about guys projected beyond round two). But there probably are 20 guys in this draft that I would take before Calvin (maybe not for the Canucks specifically, depending on needs) but based on just the quality of the player, he is near #22.

Him or Stefan Elliott. I'd be fine with either one.

I'd take Calvin De Haan over both Elliot and Ellis. Though I rather have Kyle Palmieri.(The next Parise)

I read up about this guy. I was thinking we should draft him, but I remember reading he's pretty small, not just vertically, but he needs to put on some muscle big time.

he was 5'11 160 ish at the beginning of the year

now that article shows he's gonna be 5'11 175ish for the draft..

that's decent size.. especially considering he's gonna put on at least 10 pounds of muscle over this summer..

season up 1 year in the chl... then maybe put on another 10 pounds in the summer before our training camp..

that's good size.. considering raymond was small now he's like 190

Keep in mind the direction the NHL is going in. You no longer have to be 6'0, 200 lbs minimum to play defense in the NHL.

I'm not saying you want everyone on your blueline to be 5'11 and 180 lbs, but they have a number of big guys in the system already. Ellington is 6'0, 200 lbs. McIver is 6'2, 205. Rahimi, 6'3, 220. Sauve, 6'3, 209.

Sure, everyone would love have to a Chara or Pronger patrolling their blueline, but they don't. Scott Niedermayer and Brian Rafalski are two of the best puck moving defenders in the game right now...Scott's listed at 6'0, 200 and Rafalski at 5'9, 190. Hell, Lidstrom is only listed at 190 lbs.

Size is not going to scare off teams in the draft anymore, at least not the smart ones, anyway.

I still think De Haan is going to be a guy that is going to surprise the NHL laymans in how early he goes. Puck moving defensemen are always the order of the day for teams at the draft table. I could see him going as low as 10th to the Oilers.

Look at it this way. Start with the Islanders, and count off how many teams have an immediate need for a scoring defenseman. I counted 21, with the Islanders picking twice.

I expect a lot of those mid level forwards, including the high ranked Swedes available this year, to drop at the expense of the mobile defensemen in this draft, and I expect that by the time Gillis picks at 22, it will be slim pickings for the elite guys available at that position.

he's 6 foot & 170

25. Boston Bruins - Calvin de Haan - 6-0/170 - (Defence) - (Oshawa/OHL)

A potential power play quarterback that might be able to make a difference once he matures, de Haan has a high level of hockey sense and shows the vision to make fast accurate decisions with the puck even with forwards bearing down on him. His passing skills are excellent and he has no trouble making long tape to tape outlet passes. He is a very good skater that can get to full speed quickly and lead the rush. Once he gains some more power to his frame, he should become a little faster and more stable on his blades. Now de Haan is not the sturdiest of defenceman, so it will be important for him to get stronger to play down low more effectively and win one-on-one puck battles. He has a fine shot from the point that seems to has eyes since it net the often and is easy for forwards to tip. He's a worthwhile pick in the late first round if a team is willing to be patient as he improves defensively and matures physically.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=281920

Shane Malloy thinks that we'll be getting Elliot though,

22. Vancouver Canucks - Stefan Elliott - 6-1/185 - (Defence) - (Saskatoon/WHL)

The best word to describe Elliott is smart - and that can go a long way to being a consistent professional. He has good puck skills when it comes to making a first pass out of the zone to his forwards and has poise when being pressured. He handles the puck well and can create time and can corral bad passes thrown his way. Elliott's excellent skating helps him jump into a rush or retreat quickly to get back into position. His agility and lateral movement is very good and Elliott does not get beat because of his skating. He can shoot the puck with authority and is improving on finding seams to make sure the puck gets on net. He's not the most physical defenceman when it comes to laying out hits, but he tries hard to tie up his man and move the puck out of harms way. His defensive skills are sometimes inconsistent, as he is asked to be more of an offensive presence on his WHL club. He certainly has the ability to learn the tricks of the trade and become more effective in his own zone. Like most young defenceman, he needs work in certain areas but you cannot deny his keen hockey sense and ability to jump start an offence. If given three to four years to learn his craft, Elliott could turn into a valued top four defenceman.

Always nice to see players with Dutch roots play good.
He could fill in the place Linden left
You should know Linden has dutch roots as well.

So is/ was Beukeboom, Joe Nieuwendyk, The Staal- brothers etc....Canadians with dutch heritage should make a great national team for The Netherlands.....unfortunately they are all good enough to make team Canada
