I sure hope mike gillis force the slow skater defenseman to waive his NTC! we dont want mitchell,i like him as a person but not as a player. He is just too slow to be playing the new NHL. Isnt that what you all say to ohlund a while back? we need to be faster and grittier..oh did i say grit? yeah he doesnt hit anymore like he used to!

maybe we could get a 4th or 5th rounder for him?

I dont think he ever was a big time hitter. He just used his body to get into better position, than lay out a big hit.

What is with people wanting to trade Bieksa and Mitchell? Ohlund is obviously not coming back and we need them. (Well unless we can sign Bouwmeester)

No, we don't.

He is still a quality 2nd pairing defensive specialist who is a great PKer.

Sure, his mobility may be average and had a couple bad sticks snap on him during the playoffs, but that doesn't mean we all of a sudden need to trade him.

Willie does his job very well. One of the top +/- guys in the nhl. For the money we pay him he couldn't be replaced that easy.

That's why he got the highest +/- rating on the team right?

he cant even make a slap shot without getting blocked. but we could get a better Shutdown defenseman and is a fast skater.

I cant believe you took this thread seriously enough to warrant a defense of Mitchell.

Hey Hal Gill just called, he said he's twice as slow as Willie, and the Stanley Cup is fine, thanks for asking.

Ohlund wont be coming back, And Willie`s plus minus alone is enough to want to keep him IMO, even though i think he made some bad moves in the playoffs, no way can we push the blame toward Mitchell.

Exactly...Mitchell had a great season. I think most people turned against him because of his play against the Blackhawks which is ridiculous.
Just like how people wanted to trade Luongo after he let in 7 goals in game 6.
Main point is. We have to keep Mitchell.

What you don't notice is how his positioning allows him to slow the forward down as they enter our zone. He was never a heavy hitter as many previous poster have pointed out, it's always been his ability to absorb forwards into corners and slow down the play that's valuable.

Sure we could force him to waive his NTC and to leave his hometown, that would look soooo good to the free agents out there who we look to to replace Mitchell who just got traded to a bag of pucks.

Sounds good.
