Jordan Schroeder Talk

Did Schroeder actually play that bad during these 5 games? As far as the first 3 games, I've heard nothing but good things about him.

I watched games 4 and 5 and he did seem noticable, just not hitting the scoresheet.

no, people just wanted to see him score/hit the scoresheet. Jordan was all over the ice and created opportunities, he was just overshadowed by Kass's 2 goals and fights.

I was a little disappointed in Schroeder's game.

Sure he was noticeable and was using his speed. But he wasn't using it in an effective way. Too much Raymond style, going to the outside and circling the perimeter.

He's gotta learn, that for a player his size, the last thing he wants to do is get in puck battles. Stay AWAY from the boards. He's gonna be most effective driving up the middle full speed and forcing defenders back. Then he's gotta use his agility to get into areas that he can get the puck on the net, or set up one of his teammates.

If he thinks he's gonna win battles along the boards, he's not gonna be very successful in the NHL.

Dude got rocked cutting into the middle vs the Heat so it's no wonder he went all Mason Raymond after that.

Schroeder's going to need to convert to wing at the NHL level. Players like Mallet and Gaunce are always going to be better at handling 3rd/4th line centering roles.

Marchand, Briere, St.Louis, Gionta etc.

All these guys played center earlier in their careers but always end up on the wing in the NHL.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Schroeder - Kesler - Booth

Higgins - Lapierre - Kassian

Raymond - Malhotra - Hansen

He can play on line 2-4 depending on situation. Center the 2nd PP like Hodgson did last season.

But he won't have the pressure of shutting down the other teams offense when he's on wing.

That's a dangerous line up, tons of speed and you have numerous of options. All 4 lines of wingers are interchangeable and can play anywhere in the line-up.

He obviously wasn't agile enough then...

Schroeder's got some moves, but he needs the confidence to use them more. He's a more skilled played than just playing straight line hockey, but he needs to start showing it.

sad thing is if rodin's goal wasnt disallowed everyone would be saying what a great pass it was and what a great game he played. its 5 games in a lot of players have struggled out of the gate hold the firing squad.

I wouldn't even say he's really struggled. The points just haven't come. He's been playing a pretty solid game throughout the time that I've watched. It's really unfair to him to judge based solely on the score sheet.

Exactly. That is a prototypical AV team. Speed on the wing and size down the middle. That's why he had so much trouble with Hodgson, who is soft.

People get too caught up in these wonder-kids like Jeff Skinner who seamlessly step into the NHL and produce at a young age. Every player develops at different rates. Like you mentioned most smaller players took longer to develop and all shifted from center to the wing.

Pat Kane was a center and shifted to wing in favor of the "Bull" Jonathan Toews.
