Ah. I thought he meant Schroeder was the first American player drafted this year.

If our luck continues and Elliot falls to us tommorrow, that will be amazing.

Btw, With Schroeder and White being on the same team now,
and Schroeder seems to have stepped infront of patty white on the depth chart...

He sure makes White look like a bad pick.....in comparison I suppose?

Edit : Oh ffs...posted this in the wrong thread...w/e...its somewhat..on topic.

According to Rey's signature, it seems that Patrick is a long term project. We will see in a few years.

I'm liking this year's pick..Considering last year (CoHo), this is HUGE! 2 steals in 2 years. We've improved nicely with drafting. Schroeder is gonna be a nice fit. 2 nice young centers...a la pens anyone? Give him a break cuz he's american but #1 american drafted this year? I'll take that. They seem to do well....

Give him 3 years then watch. I'm thinking cliff and brendan just cuz of the size...but both were huge for us. Size doesn't matter if ur good.

Any thoughts???

Both players havn't made an impact in the NHL yet, I have no doubt that they can and will make an impact but it is a little early to be calling them steals. Wait until they get a couple of years into their careers then start talking about them. Who knows, any player can peak at any time and thats the best they will ever do in their careers, so don't get to happy just yet.
I believe Markus Naslund and Pavel Bure's #'s should get retired. GO CANUCKS GO!

if a projected top 10-15 player fell to a 22nd pick isn't a steal, i don't know what is

AT 3-5 Million a season Luongo is a good goalie, anything more is robbery.

Who would you rather have for the money Malkin, Ovechkin, Crosby or Luongo? Choice is simple I am not picking the guy with the over inflated pads.

p.s.

And unless LUongo wins an award and or makes the conference finals, he was no better than Cloutier.

in fact, Cloutier went farther in the playoffs with the canucks than Luongo has.

lol. A little low for expectations don't you think? I mean no offense to Morrison or Ronning, but I think Schroeder will/should turn out to be a lot better than those two. He has the ability to be a dynamic offensive scorer that can put up 80+ points a season. That's something Morrison has never done and Ronning has only done once.

Sure those expectations are high, but considering how terrible the drafting of this franchise as gone, one can only be so patient.

Sig by me!

From what i see he looks like he's tougher than Kane....more like a Theo Fleury...i'm excited

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Hodgson Schroeder
Kesler

we could have a very exciting team for many years.

What about

Sedin Sedin Schroeder
Burrows Hodgson Kesler

Burrows can dig and pull the trigger, Kesler works his butt off and Hodgson will dish the passes.

I still don't understand why Gillis didn't take Erixon. A well-developed, big, offensive defenceman. Isn't that exactly what we STILL need?

because Schoreder was the best player available to the canucks? you don't skip a extremely talented forward with excellent all around skills just because your club needs a defensman right now. One is suppose to be an early 10-15 pick, one is a 28th or lower pick, you actually need to ask why MG didnt take Erixon?@@

Ronning/Morrison = HORRIBLE COMPARISON. Try Cammy/Oshie/Briere

point of fact that people must be missing... Jordan was supposed to be a senior in high school this year, yet he's clearly one of the top college players. Think he doesn't have "stud" written all over him? I don't want to compare him to JT, but right now he is the US version of JT... it'll be interesting to see these two play out their careers in the NHL.

If he was supposed to be a senior in high school he wouldn't be going to college already.
Plus he was born in 1990 which means he would have graduated from high school last year.

yes he would. Both him and Aaron Ness (drafted last year) graduated early so they could attend college early. He's only 18 right now, and wasn't born till September... so he had just turned 18 when college hockey was starting (while most first year college kids are turning 19.) Think about it... 2006 he was a freshman (last year at St. Thomas,) 2007 sophomore, 2008 finished his junior year... well we just finished '09 school year (which would have been his senior year.) Why else would a kid with his talent NOT have been drafted out of HS like Nick Leddy (Wild's first round pick?)

I should also add that some kids don't start school till they are 6 years old (which is what happened with Aaron Ness and why he was able to get drafted last year while Jordan didn't make the cutoff for the draft.)

I would call him a poor mans Patrick Kane. Not the same skill level and ability to miss hits Kane has but still a high skill player.

I would argue from comparing them at same age, he is actually more skilled than Kane but not as flashy. Kane didn't get his top end shot until the year after his draft year scoring a lot of his junior goals on misdirects, dekes, tips and such.

I am always one to caution hype and have done so with Hodgson and others but this really feels like the potential steal of the 2009 draft. Gillis gets credit for picking him but the GMs in front will perhaps be kicking themselves for years and years about the one that got away.

If Schroeder had playing in OHL, for example, his point total might have been insane (way beyond MD of Brampton) as it is far more difficult to put up points in NCAA than in CHL.

Final point, to OP, he does not compare well to either to Ronning or Morrison. Both were good players in their prime but never played with edge/grit that his kid seems to.

Alex Burrows, I fail to see the reason why nobody questions his ability to play in the nhl. He can't skate; its ridiculous. IMOP Alex Burrow's an embarrassment to the team. Please Gillis let this guy go and keep Krog or Pettinger or Brown whoever.

Just from seeing some of the highlights, I'm excited about this guy. Man, what a shot!

Seems kind of like Ray Whitney. But Schroeder looks like he has a better shot for sure and he plays the pivot.
