Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Everyone needs to take it easy with all these comparisons to OTHER players. Let the guy show you HIS game before you make any judgments. Prospects camp isn't to far away and we'll all get our chance to form opinions bases on tangible proof. Then we can discuss with realistic expectations so people don't keep setting themselves up for disappointment.

Rodin won't be coming to the prospects camp, he'll join the team during the pre-season, and maybe in the prospects tourney (if we are having one again)

Why would he play in the tourney but not go through the prospects camp?

because the prospects camp is in a couple weeks and it's just to see how they are doing and give them a workout/nutrition plan. prospects usually only attend 2-3 of those camps.

Although those could be factors, you have to remember he has gained a bit of weight and experience was gained throughout the year. When you mix those two factors into the fact that his play is more suited to North American hockey, I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up pretty good numbers in the AHL. Travel won't be so bad in Chicago either.

A comparison I can think of now is Loui Eriksson put up 14 points in 39 SEL games, came to the AHL and put up 60 points in 78 games. Of course, he didn't get a single NHL game that year, but he did a lot of things to deserve it.

Loui has better finish than rodin in my opinion but rodin is bit more physical. I would expect rodin to get somewhere around 40-50 pts in AHL. He could do better depending on how his linemates do but jus like eriksson I doubt he gets a game with the canucks this year unless the injury bug hits us hard at forward position instead of defence like last year.

Anton does have the skill and does play a style of game AV likes but he would really have wow the coaches to get spot out of camp. This would be the best case scenario but realistically he plays full year with wolves and challenges next year for sure.

Definitely do NOT think he will make the team out of camp. But, if he puts a string of good games together I won't be surprised if he gets a call-up. He is the kind of player that can slot in on any line, due to the edge he plays with and his 2-way abilities.

Well, you're wrong this time around. He is coming to prospects camp. I think it's good, as he hasn't been to any others (not 100% sure on that, but I can't specifically recall him being to one). It will give him a better chance to get to know the players he'll be playing with in the prospects tourney as well. Very excited for that this year. I wonder if Hodgson will be playing in it again?

I don't blame him for being wrong.

I wouldn't have expected Rodin to come either, I was very suprised when I saw his name, and Anderssons' name on the list.

If you look at Rodin's numbers in the World Juniors he last attended, they led the team (well, tied with Pajaarvi) and he was playing on the 3rd line. I think he'll be able to put up good numbers.

I don't necessarily blame him either, as Rodin's at a stage in his development beyond probably all of the others attending the camp, but as he'd never really been in a position to come over to NA because of his contract and desire to play in the SEL still, it's not like the option for him to attend the prospects camp in the past was really there, so to me, for both of them, it makes sense to attend

he's been to the previous 2 prospects camps (or rather the mid-summer development camps, which is what I was referring to and what starts next week)... this will be his 3rd

Damn Thomas Gradin is a genius for scouting that this guy would grow 2 inches and improve that much.

Thomas Gradin is not a genius. The guy was an amazing hockey player and played in the league when shots to the heads from midgets were during the warm-ups. Survived and excelled in the league during the era when Swedes were still making a name for themselves. If he was playing today he would be a superstar. the young generation do not realize that he was that good. I compare to Bure - i think Gradin was better

Love Thomas Gradin but give credit where due.

And his best has impressed Canucks scout Inge Hammarstrom, who lives on the same street as Rodin in Gavle, Sweden, the city in which Brynas plays.

“When he plays, he’s been good, and at times sensational,” said Hammarstrom, who is currently in Finland scouting a tournament of 1992-born players.

Hammarstrom talks to Rodin on a regular basis, with the goal of mainly just trying to keep his spirits up.

“I try to just give him advice, cheer him up, and keep pushing him to work hard,” said Hammarstrom. “If he can battle through this, he will come back to North America and produce.”

First time I saw him I thought of a young Peter Forsberg.

Anton Rodin

Prospect Grade: 7.0 C (About Prospect Grades)

Profile Contributed By: HF Staff

History

2009-10: Rodin had an outstanding World Junior Championships. He put up twice as many points as Brynas teammate, and fellow 18-year-old, Jakob Silfverberg (OTT), and tied Oiler prospect Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson for second overall on the team with three goals and seven assists. Rodin's two game-winning goals were tops for Sweden.

Talent Analysis

Rödin's offensive game stands out thanks to his superb skating, his shot, hockey sense and puck handling. Usually scores quite spectacular goals and does not shy away from playing physical. Could use some more strength though. He has the offensive arsenal to be a productive player in the future, but has also the fundamental skills to be used as a role- and checkling line player.

Most famously, Hammarström is credited with being the scout who pushed the hardest for Philadelphia to select Peter Forsberg with the sixth overall pick of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. At the time, the pick was considered a surprise — and a bit of a gamble. Forsberg had been ranked considerably lower by The Hockey News in its 1991 Draft Preview, and most observers expected the player to be taken late in the first round or early in the second round of the draft.

And his best has impressed Canucks scout Inge Hammarstrom, who lives on the same street as Rodin in Gavle, Sweden, the city in which Brynas plays.

When rodin was doing his bench presses, did you guys notice something about him, that drastically changed this year?.

Well if not, I am here to inform you guys he has grew roughly 2 inches, and put on some Massive mass, and is considerably bigger then he was last year.

From what I heard from tweets, etc, People were in shock when he walked in, because of the amount of muscle he put on in just one year.

Just a interesting tidbit for you all.
