I just got back from the game. Good game for Connauton. Next stop...... The Moose.

P.S Evander Kane was at the game to support his old team.

you mean the canucks, moose were eliminated tonight too. all of the canucks prospects should be joining the team and practicing after the canucks practice. Some of them may slot in in case of injury/underperformance too.

Unless you mean next year, then yes, on to the moose.

bitter/sweet night last night. good to see the big club move one but sucks to see the young guys' seasons cut short with the exception of Sauve and anthony.

Was really hoping for the Giants and Sea Dogs to be in the Memorial Cup tournament. I've mentioned this before, but if every year at least one prospect can go far in the CHL playoffs and then join the Moose afterwards it's always a great experience.

I watched it a week or so ago and i was going to put up a comment, but i was too tired. sorry. Nice to see someone is nice enough to put up a video so you can see how he do. Most videos of him on youtube are fights. I have no oppurtunity to see how his play is except looking at his stats, since i live in sweden.

The Canucks announced today they have signed blueliner Kevin Connauton, most recently a star defenceman for the WHL's Vancouver Giants, to a contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

this guy may turn out to be our best defensemen down the road

he has all the abilities right now.. good skater... great shot from the point..
mean streak at times.. large frame..

just has to put it all together for the big leagues

i trust that a.v and gillis will groom him properly like how washington is slowly
bringing up alzner without rushing him

I don't get how sometimes (or even most of the time) they don't disclose terms of the deal. I'd expect this to be a standard 3-year ELC right? So what would the issue be with not disclosing the term?

club policy, they never disclose the terms of the deal, ever.
terms can be found out with the league when the contract is filed. do you want people to know the terms of your hiring? It'll be a standard ELC and should be on capgeek shortly.

But what's the point of not disclosing it right away when it's going to be revealed later on anyway? That's what I'm curious about.

It's not guranteed at all.

He could easily be assigned to the Giants if Manitoba has a glut of defensman or if the staff deem him not ready.

You got to believe Sauve and Ellington would be on the Moose before him (im not saying Ellington is better, but he is more experienced in the PRo ranks and Connauton needs defensive WORK).

I like Connauton, but I think he may be well served to play in the WHL again, he didnt dominate at both ends....if he can do that, then we shall see.....If you dont think he he'll get sent down, ask Luca Sbisa what that feels like.

We all know Manitoba is weak defensively... Connauton should have no problems there.

Does Connauton get top pair minutes against opposing top lines next year on the Moose?

I dont think so.

I would rather see him log 30+ minutes in all situations on the Giants, and actually show he can shut down people.

He hasnt been able to do that yet at the junior level, why would he at the PRO level?

Well he's gonna come to camp and show what he's got, if he's got what it takes to start his AHL career than Gillis will make sure thats where he ends up. But just because he won't log top pair minutes isn't a reason to not let him make the jump. He's got to start transitioning his game anyway, I don't the AHL is a far cry especialy if you believe 1 more year of WHL will help him so much. Either way every player is different so I don't mind if he goes back but the team seems pretty high on him so we'll see this training camp I guess.Posted Image

because there is no way in hell they are going to waste a year of his contract playing against children as an overager in the WHL. he's going to be sent to the AHL to develop, they need all the help they can get and there is absolutely no reason why he should return to the Giants. he's never going to be a shutdown D-man, so get that out of your mind. he does a good enough job defensively to make the jump, and he's an offensive force. he will play the Moose PP and be on the 2nd pairing most likely. If, out of training camp/a brief stint with the moose, he is not deemed ready, then he may be reassigned to the giants or Victoria, but that would be a hell of a setback that would be required. The ducks players will not be on the moose roster next season, and Oberg might make the Canucks. the moose have a thin D as it is, nevermind next year.

There's always the option of sending him to the Victoria Salmon Kings in the ECHL. ECHL > WHL.

For the guy who posts the most on the prospect forum.....you dont lose a year on your contract if you dont play in the NHL. Remember the nine games rule?

Im not saying he is going to be a shutdown guy, but when he is exposed by "children" as you so politely called it, I definately think he needs to refine his game in his own end to become better.

Logging 30 in the WHL to me seems more beneficial than logging 15 in the AHL, with most of it on the PP....he isnt good enough to log more at the PRO level yet.

Temper you expectations, or you'll be sorely dissapointed.

send mike green down to the AHL and he will get exposed at least once a game by a younger guy but that doesnt mean that he isn't good enough for the NHL. you want the kid to play to his strengths and his strength is his offense and to force him to focus on defense only would be asking him to change his game and put him out of his element. it's not like he can't defend at all because he is fairly good in his zone and is not as bad as people think he is. he will improve his defense playing in the AHL, when you are pushed you have no choice but to push back and in the WHL he will not be pushed hard enough for him to improve. Kevin needs to make the jump to the pro ranks now either with moose or Salmon kings because there's not much more he can do with the Giants.

+1

Though I think he should put some emphasis on defense; he probably won't turn into Mike Green. Going with what is by GZA, if he struggles in the AHL defensively, assuming he has the right attitude and desire to play in the NHL, he'll put the effort and work in to fill that void if it does prove to be there. If he really struggles, he can play in the ECHL (if he's not gonna start there).
