The thing I notice watching that vid is how confident and determined.Connauton looks. Two very important traits. He also has more size than I realized. I can definitely see him in a Top 4 role in the next two seasons as long as his defensive approach improves to NHL standards which I am confident that it will.

His raw skills are phenomenal. If he has the inner desire to become the best he can, there is no reason he can't thrive at the NHL level.

Both he and Chris Tanev will continue to mature and grow with the Wolves until they're ready to step into quality NHL minutes and responsibility. No sense having either play 12-14 minutes in the show while they could be playing 25+ in the AHL developing.

I wonder if this season has propelled Connauton over Yann Sauve on the depth chart?

well, sort of. sauve is like tanev, solid defensively, except sauve is more physical, while tanev is better positionally/has batter hockey smarts. tanev's breakout pass is superior too. so sauve fell behind tanev as far as defensive defensemen go, but nauts is still the cream of our crop for an offensive d-man, and he is getting more valuable as a defensman overall as his defensive game improves.

Super excited about this guy, so much so that i actually watched the AHL hardest shoot comp and allstar game. for anyone else who watched him winning the hardest shot, did it seem like he was not enjoying himself at all. i swear every time the camera went to his face he seemed so sullen. obviously it is unimportant, i am just wondering if anyone else shared this observation?

he definitely was smiling when he scored in the game however. :towel:

Man we really don't need another Top 4 dman we have so many with that potential especially with this guy.

Just really curious on what he could do at the NHL level.....

Rome, Salo, and Sulzer are all UFA at the end of this year.
Looks like a chance for Tanev, Connauton, or Sauve to get a spot in the top 6 next year.

I believe Salo has one more season in him. If there is room for Tanev he will be here as a regular and Connauton and Sauve will fill in depending on the role needed. Of course this will all change like it does every year as guys are moved in and out of the organization.

As much as I like Salo, I hope the Canucks win it all and he leaves on a high-note. I mean.... one day he might just break down and never get up.... so best not to tempt fate, lol.

Guys like Sauve and Tanev can easily fit in the bottom 6, since they either have the size (Sauve) or calmness (Tanev) to fit that role. For Connauton, he needs to be put into offensive situations to be truly successful, and if/when Salo leaves, there's a good opening available. Have a bottom pairing of Tanev-Connauton with Kevin on the 2nd PP unit?

Our D don't have the greatest lateral mobility, hence it seems our shots always get blocked. Hope K-Conn can help fix that in future.

stats update:
Season Team GP	G	A	PTS	+/-	SOG	PIM	SOG	SOA	SOGW	SO
2011-12 Regular Season	Chicago Wolves	61	11	15	26	-4	162	56	1	1	1	1.000
2010-11 Regular Season	Manitoba Moose	73	11	12	23	-11	146	51	1	3	1	0.33

pretty good progression so far, 3 more points (and same # of goals) than last year in 12 fewer games, and a +/- that's 7 better. He's also getting even more pucks on net.

He s looking real impressive. One has to think that he gets a real serious look to make the team next year. I d rather see Vancouver promote from within than make a deal that they may not need to make.

no clue, maybe they wanted to get a good look at Hunt (recent ATO signing) and give Kevin a rest.

K-Conn in 5 fewer games than last year, so far has:

2 more goals, 4 more assists, 6 more points, is 7 higher in the plus/minus and has 38 more shots on net.

Pace over 80 games = 15 goals & 34 points.

Would have been cool to see him get a game or three in this year, but I think that was made pretty much impossible once Gragnani was brought in.

Fail by management to not at least give this guy a look during the regular season.

He's our best offensive defenceman prospect, and with our PP struggling for the last 2-3 months, he could have added something to it. I don't care if his defensive game needs work, he can't be any worse than Gragnani in his own zone. And at least he knows how to get pucks through on the powerplay.

Actually based on those highlights i'd beg to differ, good stickwork in the D zone, strong in the corners and enough physicality along the boards to keep things interesting
