He's basically one of the most NHL ready players in the draft. He was playing with 23 year olds while he was 17 and dominated. The only reason he won't make it is because of the depth at the center position.

What will probably happen is they will obviously have him at training camp and when he doesn't make the team, the coaching staff will give him an assignment to work on over the next season on whichever team he's playing on (hopefully the Moose, so he can get used to playing more games in a season). Much like what happened with Cody Hodgson. I'm sure he was right up there last season as almost making the team, but if you look at his stats before he was drafted his +/- was horrible, so playing on a defensive team in the NHL when you have that problem isn't an option. If you look at this year, he won CHL player of the year over John Tavares, mainly because of his +/-. The other stats were a little lower, but his defensive play improved immensely. I'm pretty sure he was about +30 better than Tavares in this respect. I'm looking for Schroeder to be on the team 10/11 season.

we're looking at Kesler, Hodgson, Johnson, Rypien, Schroeder.... (unless we sign the sedins)
bringing in hossa/gaborik/whoever, only bolsters the wings... there is a BIG possibility Schroeder AND hodgson make the team.
I personally wouldn't mind if they did that and allowed them to grow with the big club and take a chance.
worked for kane and toews......

If you judge your life by the pieces of s*** that inhabit your TV
Because they stand so proud and they talk too loud
And every other word is a lie I've found
That everyone who is anyone is a waste of time

Demitra and Wellwood can also play center.
So the center depth chart (w/o schroeder):
Kesler, Demitra, Hodgson, Wellwood, Johnson, Rypien, Bolduc, Bliznak
Bolduc and Bliznak are likely used as call-ups during the season for injuries, etc. So that leaves the other 6 players to fill 4 spots. My guess is one more year in college before he makes the jump.
