"Our focus is trying to get our own players signed first," Gillis said. "Beyond that we will explore every opportunity we have ... but we have budgeted for our own players plus some other significant additions, so we'll see how successful we are on July 1."

The NHL free-agent period opens at Noon ET on Wednesday.

Gaborik and Cammaleri perhaps JBo.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

you know that there are 29 other teams out there right?

It's funny how a lot of people say crap like Otaku said above, yeah Canucks are going to sign every free agent and still have money left over ....WTF!

My wishlist this upcoming free agency is Gaborik and Bouwmeester.

A PP quaterback is something we desperately need and, if the price is right, I that J-Bo can fill that void (not a total lock, however).

Gaborik, when healthy, can provide some undeniable talent and scoring to the team with his speed and hands. Lets hope that the hip-surgery he underwent can cure his past problems.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens if the Sedins don't resign... something that looks like it's going to happen. I believe in Gillis, though, and fully believe he can make this team work. I can't help but feel excited (and definitely a little scared) about the changes we are going to see...

Not sure what "significant additions" would mean, but if Sedins walk, I'd put #1 priority on getting Hossa to a front loaded contract @ +/- 5.5mill per!!

Last year Gillis went after the biggest fish in the pond (didnt turn out that way, but at the time seemed like a great addition).

I concur they are all on the radar. I would like to think Sykora might be on radar as well and maybe some Philly players they need caproom fast.

You guys REALLY have nothing beter to do.

He said they have BUDGETED for the significant players is all, you guys should read it a little beter.

That basically means that he may be able to fit some extra players in and nothing more.

I think he means significant additions by free agency AND trade. There's no guarentee that Gaborik, Hossa, Cammalleri, Bouwmeester, or Neidermayer will come here. There's a 1/6 chance of landing just 1 of them (well, it's higher if you take into account how some teams have no cap room). If Luongo does sign an extension this summer, Gillis might trade Schneider and others for a top 6 forward or top defenceman.

Are you not on the boards as well? Were you not curious to see what he was saying as well? Did it never cross your mind he was saying he might add a couple more significant players?

And finally,

do YOU have nothing better to do than make yourself look like an a-hole so CDC could think your a hotshot and call you the next Wetcoaster in your little fantasy world where everyone is wrong and you are right?

F off.

Anoying when he says, "we have budgeted for significant additions" and people jump all over it like he said, "we will make significant changes".

Seriously op is just twisting Gillis words to get some attention.
