The Prospects Cupboard Where do you rank these potential Canucks?

For the first time I can remember there is now a list of prospects worth following. Instead of just one or two guys in the system, the Canucks now have many young players with NHL potential. I have to admit that taking one player in each and every round of this years draft was curiously exciting for me as a fan. Since then I have been thinking of the Canucks' future players more than ever. I really wish I knew more about all of them. So I would like to know what are the top 10 prospects you are most interested in following as they develop into (hopefully) a Vancouver Canuck pro.

1. Cody Hodgson
2. Michael Grabner
3. Jordan Schroeder
4. Cory Schneider
5. Yann Sauve
6. Steven Anthony
7. Anton Rodin
8. Sergei Shirokov
9. Evan Oberg
10. Matt Pope

To me, this is a very good list of young players that will have a positive impact on the next few seasons (perhaps as far off as four seasons for some to arrive) for the Canuck organization. Compare this to the days when the Hamilton Canucks had Mike Fountain or Mike Peca... well times sure have changed.

I look forward to reading your lists. :)

Edit: In light of the recent trades I had to change a few players now that they are no longer Canucks' Prospects.

Just thought I should point out to those commenting on others' lists, the OP asked which 10 prospects everybody was the most interested in following, not the top 10 in the organization. No need to tell them they are missing a player, as it is their opinion alone.

1. Cody Hodgson
2. Jordan Schroeder
3. Michael Grabner
4. Cory Schneider
5. Evan Oberg
6. Patrick White
7. Anton Rodin
8. Yann Sauve
9. Mario Bliznak
10. Eric Walsky

Honorable Mention: Steven Anthony and Taylor Ellington

You just don't do it. Don't even think about it.

meaning, you cant really forget anyone, and everyone's list would be different

1 Shirokov
2 Grabner
3 Hodgson
4 Rodin
5 Schroeder
6 Andersson
7 Kablukov
8 Froshaug
9 Rai
10 Sauve

Malkin. Semin. Ovechkin. Kovalchuk.

1. Cody Hodgson (1a/1b center combo with Schroeder)
2. Jordan Schroeder
3. Cory Schneider (good starter)
4. Micheal Grabner (2nd liner)
5. Sergei Shirokov (2nd liner)
6. Anton Rodin (2nd liner)
7. Yann Sauve (top 4)
8. Steven Anthony (1st liner if last year was a fluke, 3rd liner if it wasn't)
9. Patrick White (3rd/4th line center)
10. Taylor Ellington (5th/6th D-man)

The future looks bright. This could be our lineup in a few years: (this is a fantasy that Gabby,Hossa and JBo will all sign here this offseason :P )

Gaborik-Hodgson-Hossa (one of the top lines in the NHL)
Raymond-Schroeder-Grabner (one of the fastest lines in the NHL)
Burrows-Kesler-Bernier (one of the best checking lines in the NHL)
Hordichuk-Johnson-Hansen (same old)

Bouwmeester-Bieksa
Edler-Mitchell
Salo-O'Brien

Luongo
Schneider

That was the hardest forward lineup to make. We've got too many future NHLers in the system

The salary cap says hello.

Gaborik - 6
Hodgson - 1.75
Hossa - 7
Bouwmeester - 6.5
Edler,Mitchell,Salo,Bieksa = 4 x 3.5 = 14
Luongo = 7.5 - after a raise
Kesler - 3.75 - after a raise
Burrows + Bernier = 4

Total for that core = 50.5 and that's only 12 players. And when the cap goes down next year.... then what?

I like our future, but that lineup is just not going to happen haha

Good for you, you thought of Bliznak - very good defensive player - very likely going to be here as a 3rd/4th liner in a couple of years. This is the kind of pick you have to have to fill in the specialist spots inexpensively on your roster, under the cap. We need a couple of draft successes like that for the D core again to take the spots that Bieksa and Edler held before they developed and earned the big pay hikes. We need to develop at least 1 D and 2 F per year. One goalie every two years. I see a goalie on your list and two F that will likely make our team in the fall. We are missing a new young D prospect likely to make the team this fall. RIP Luc. Two other player types missing from our list are mucker/grinders and tough guys that can play. Maybe Gillis can fill those needs next year. In the meantime, maybe MG can score a reclamation project like Wellwood, but for the D this year.

That and I would prefer that Hodgson doesn't get pushed to being a first line center in his rookie season. The pressure would just be too big for such a young player. Plus it's risky for us because not every top prospect pan out in their first year.

That wouldn't be his rookie season though. I said a few years from now, meaning anywhere from 3-5.

Ten prospects I'm most interested in following:

Patrick White
Anton Rodin
Peter Andersson
Steven Anthony
Mats Froshaug
Kevin Connauton
Jeremy Price
Kris Fredheim
Eric Walsky
Evan Oberg

The big name prospects are rather boring, imo, to follow, because everyone expects success. I find it a lot more exciting when some little known prospect like Connauton or Fredheim have breakout years, and really develop well.

Although, Fredheim's development hasn't been very encouraging.

1. Grabner
2. Rodin
3. Schroeder
4. White
5. Anthony
6. Shirokov
7. Sauve
8. Oberg
9. Connauton
10. Andersson

Hodgson and Schneider aren't really as interesting more, since they're on the cusp of being in the NHL. You could say the same about Grabner to an extent, but he is such an exciting player.
