A LOT of people on here really lover a guy that has been a plus player a whopping 2x in his career and had a monster career high of 30 points last year on a team that jumps into the play more than just about anyone.
Pass. Pass. Pass.
The guy is 23 and has only played one full season in the NHL. His career high was 40 points, pretty good for a defensman in his first full year in the NHL, wouldn't you agree.

Chicago still has to consider that they have to sign their top two guys in Kane and Toews next year who will absorb a minimum of 5-6 mil each. I only see Chicago going after some rental players to fill this years cap space so that they can sign those two next year.
Exactly.
The Blackhawks I am sure value Duncan Keith over Cam Barker at this point, and next season is when Keith is an RFA along with Toews, Kane, Ladd, and Hjalmarsson.
If we offered a 4year 12 million dollar contract to Barker I dont think they could match that if the want to keep Toews, Kane and Keith. Ballpark figure is it will probably take $15million to sign the afformentioned 3 pieces, putting their cap hit at $50m with 1 goalie, 4 defensman, and 7 forwards signed. I'm pretty sure that put them in a pretty bad spot, or thats the way I see it anyways. While they may go detroit style to knock down the cap hits, I dont see it as likely and they will be losing a lot of their guys over the next 2 years.....Im very surprised to see the signed Hossa, when they will not be able to take care of their homegrown talent.

considering that Barker himself went 4th overall, and that next years draft is supposed to be weak, i would say yes.
Where did you here this, i follow prospects pretty closely, and 2010 is going to be a good draft, comparable to 2009.
2011 is supposed to be a very weak draft, so we could wait until next year and poach Duncan Keith for a very weak 1st and 3rd.
