How do you know that he'll only play 30 games? Do you have a magical crystal ball or something that gives you this knowledge? For all we know, Gaborik could be a new player after his surgery, injury free. The Rangers took a gamble, a gamble that might not pay off. But Gaborik when healthy is one of the best players in the league and IMO is worth taking a risk on. The 7.5 mill salary was a bit pricey though, I have to admit. Something with a similar cap hit to Hossa's would have been more suitable.

Not really, you get a replacement in Havlat, it's like Gaborik playing 10 more games but scoring 10 less points; Havlat. We right now have the same team as last year, but with even worse Defense and not much of an improvement on offense (potential of Raymond and Bernier being better). We're not contenders yet, unless the Sedins become gamebreakers and Luongo becomes God and has a GAA of less than 1.00 and a SP of .950.

how do you know for sure that he'll only be playing 30 games next year? what if he playes all 82 and puts up 50+ goals for the rangers next year? then your the one who will look like an idiot. having him here would give us two huge scoring threat lines because he would not play with the twins and does not need really good supporting cast to produce big numbers like someone like hossa. so he would have been great in a canucks jersey playing alongside demitra and kesler or maybe even hodgson

I think you underestimate our team. We've got more young guys than old guys, which means we've got more guys entering their prime than exitting. Since players tend to do better in their prime than in developmental/youth years, guys like Edler, Kesler, Burrows, etc. will only be doing better. Hell, even the Sedins are beginning to hit their prime.
