catch Chicago off guard x2
bum da da bum da da bum da bum bum.. (suck it chicago)
thats exactly what i was thinking. really put them in a tough spot and we would probably end up with one or both players.
id also take a run at Kessel. If Shorthouse thought the Sedin Sedin Sundin line was hard to call.. imagine a Kesler Kessel line. hehe. I think Gillis should also to a look at trading for Kessels rights rather than just try to pry him with an offer sheet. Burn less bridges.

I would say that using offer sheets to Eastern teams might be a bad idea, since you don't want to create more enemies. But for certain Western teams and especially those in the Northwest division, I'd say go for it. Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado, etc.... they won't trade with the Canucks normally, so there's no harm in trying to poach their RFA's.

Trade 1:
To NJD: Schneider, Rights to Hansen, 3rd round pick in 2010
To VAN: Rights to Zajac
New Jersey might not be able to retain this guy given that they do not have a lot of players under contract. Plus, they need some hope behind Brodeur in the future (assuming Schneider holds trade value, despite being unproven at NHL level blah blah..).
Trade 2:
To CBJ: Bieksa, 4th round pick 2010, 3rd round pick 2011.
To VAN: Russel
CBJ needs immediate help on D, and they have John Moore as a prospect waiting to come up. As of RIGHT NOW (ignoring potential), Bieksa brings more to the plate than Russel with speed and grit and better defensive play (ignoring stupid mistakes). Plus the picks we send back sweeten the deal.
Sign Zajac 4 yrs 14M (3.5 per, slightly less than Krejci for similar numbers).
Sign Seidenberg 1 yr 2.5 (if possible, or whatever puck mover is available for 2.5M/seas).
Sign backup goalie plug for 500k.
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows (6.1 + 6.1 + 2 = 14.2)
Demitra - Zajac - Kesler (4 + 3.5 + 1.75 = 9.25)
Samuellson - Raymond - Bernier (2.5 + .883 + 2 = 5.483)
Hordichuk - Johnson - Rypien (.775 + 1.15 + .55 = 2.45)
Grabner, Plug (.843 + .500 = 1.343)
Forward total: 14.2 + 9.25 + 5.483 + 2.45 + 1.343 = 32.717
Mitchell Salo (3.5 + 3.5 = 7)
Edler Seidenberg (3.25 + 2.5 = 5.75)
Russel Oberg (.750 + 0.9[guess on cap hit] = 1.65)
Nycholat, Rome (.500 + .550 = 1.05)
Defense total: 7 + 5.75 + 1.65 + 1.05 = 15.45
Luongo (6.75)
Plug (.500)
Goalie total: 7.25
Team total: 32.717 + 15.45 + 7.25 = 55.417.
We still have $1.383M cap space to deal with call-ups/injuries.
Open to flaming.
