I don't get why people are so upset because we didn't overpay for the top talent in the UFA pool. We resigned our first line this morning! everyone seems to think we still have the sedins for their previous salary...(whoever says Sedins aren't worth their contracts should stop watching the canucks, they are part of the core of this team). And there are still a decent amount of 2-tier D-men left, that are actually in our price range. Gillis is looking to add depth players via agency, we already have the key players signed (unless he gets a reasonable trade offer)... CALM DOWN, Gillis isn't an idiot he is being smart and keeping the canucks away from cap issues down the road...

I don't think gillis expected free agency to go by that quickly. He probably thought he could wait a day or two before making a move. I really dont remember a free agency where all the top free agents are signed up in one day, it definetly was a free for all frenzy.

Mike Gillis should not make a move just for the sake of making a move. The move has to make sense.

The sad part is that's EXACTLY the same thing NONIS said before many CDC's tore him a new one... Now Gillis says it and people say it's cool

Why does everyone always think it's a good thing that we spend to the cap EVERY year? We have to budget for raises for Kesler, Luongo, and Mitchell next season. There NEEDS to be cap space to remain flexible. Cap space is a good thing.

and what resulted was a boatload of overpayment (mostly through length of contracts).

You can't remember last year? Record number of players re-upping with their original team? This was the reason Gillis gave last year for not signing anyone of significance.

How many top six forwards have Nonis acquired through trade or UFA? Carter? Richard Park?
Steve Mason - 2points, Kyle Wellwood - 1point

and guess what? he left our farm team and prospects intact because of it. I am glad Nonis didn't self-destruct the team, I prefer young cheap players to injury prone overpayed players...

I guess re-signing TWO PPG players that haven proven chemistry with eachother counts as nothing these days. Theres lots of time before the season starts, so dont get ur panties in such a knot.

"Children" these days...VVVV

"i agree im tired of the young kiddies on here who were bouncing on there daddys laps while he watched Bure play for the Canucks and have never seen a game Bure played except highlights try and compare these guys but your wrong Bure was taken late in the draft because no other GMs thought Bure was available in the 89 draft but Pat Quinn found a loophole"-ccc44

Golden responses to this tasty morsel:

"I'm tired of the so called "older guys" on here that can't string a proper sentence together. B) "-sc1191

"You've been around long enough to remember Bure, but you still haven't learned the difference between "they're, there and their", "you're and your"? ;) "-sirwilliam
