The Canucks thought by many did a bad job yesterday by signing AHL players. I expected that the Canucks would not make any significant moves the first couple of days.

The free agency pool still has players that could very well fill in the voids by the parting players like Sundin, Ohlund and Labarbera. If Schneider does not take the back up role we could get Andrew Raycroft, Antero Niittymaki (if we can get him at a very good price), Stephen Valiquette.

And to fill in that void left by Sundin leaving if he does leave we could get Alex Tanguay if he agrees to a reasonable price.

And for a puck moving defense-man the names Cam Barker, Francois Beauchemin and Marc Andre Bergeron come to mind. Tell me what you guys think

Not including the Sedin's as AHL players because they got a combined over a combined 160 points last season. The Sedin's signing was a significant one.

I'd say NO to Bergeron. And I'd only say to look at Tanguay as an absolute last resort.

Valiquette is a good call for a backup. In fact, I think the Canucks were rumoured to be after him LAST year.

Obviously there's still options. People need to chill and sit back & see what develops before calling for Gillis' head on a platter.

We have room to sign players to 1 year contracts but with ~12 mill left and 8 roster spots to fill and with the cap going down next year (by 8 to 6 mill) how do we sign these players you want without losing Kesler, Raymond, Lu, Mitchell and other FAs?

I still think Sundin is a Healthy option for us.

He said he wasn't making a descsion till probably 2 weeks after july 1st.

I would fully support Sundin if he came to camp. As for Defense I think Kaberle is a realistic and probably the best option for us.

Valiquette Gillis old Client would be a great add for Backup he's big like Luongo eithe rhim or give the Job to Cory and grab a Minor league goalie like Goehring or Macintrye to fill out the Moose. Maybe Gerald Coleman or Chris Beckford-tseu are available. Moraglark is probably gonna have a shot at the Moose this year as well.

Still lots of options out there and the great thing about not rushing into UFA is we will get great deals on players we sign because its either sign for us or go to Europe or accept a 2 way deal.

Tanguay is too expensive. So are the defencemen he listed. We have $10.5 million in cap space, the cap is coming down, and still a number of positions to fill. Big name guys aren't an option. Sorry to disappoint. Depth signings will be the order of the day.

I don't care how good Kopitar gets, I will never believe that drafting Luc Bourdon was a mistake. Never.

But next year Demitra and Mitchell will most likely be gone so that frees up 7.5M
