yeah, canucks interested in gaborik was pretty much a given.....what probably happened was that we offered Gaborik a 4 year 6 contract or something like that...and just before he signed it NYR came and screwed everything up by offering a 5 year 7.5mil....So i mean, the extra 10+ mil for Gaborik is a lot of money, and anyone rejecting that offer would REALLY REALLY have to like Vancouver ALOT. So I can't blame Gabby for going to NY

With Gillis complaining about the 'crazy' contracts being offered out there, no doubt we were outbid.

What I'd like to know is if these GM's are offering outrageous dollars while gambling that the cap will be going up after 2011 or 2012, or whether they think the league will come to the rescue with changes to the cap rules if enough teams are in dire situations after these kinds of payouts?

There must be some rationale for these contracts. These guys are not dumb.
