Because re-signing Luongo would guarantee he would only get back up minutes for years to come (10 games a year, if that), which would destroy his development.

This. Also, I'm not sure why you want to keep him so much, since you can't even spell his name. It's Cory Schneider, just so you know.

And finally, if we bring him up to play as Luongo's backup, he counts as $1,084,200 against the cap. That's a bit high for a guy that will get 10-12 games. Besides, if we do get Luongo to sign an extension, Schneider is very good, and would be expendable, therefore, we'd have a pretty good trade asset.

Draft? Trade? UFA? European signings? College players?

We can address that need. If Luongo re-signs, we don't need a potential number one guy for a while. The assets that Schneider could bring us help address more pressing needs to our team now and don't cripple us for the future.

I'm all for keeping Schneider, I think he'll be a solid NHL goaltender. But the minute Luongo signs an extension, Cory becomes expendable. I like the guy, but that's just the way it is.

Because he will eventually become impatient with our program (ie. not playing at all) and won't re-sign with us, opting to look for a contract elsewhere or request to be traded.

Then Schneider isn't traded, simple really. If Luongo re-signs, Schneider is most likely gone by trade deadline.

2nd grade?
Did you really want to ask us why moving Schneider might be beneficial, or were you just trying to gain attention?

uhh.. Okay I'm not sure what you were getting at with this post. My point was there are several ways to fill the void left if Schneider is moved, since the OP was worried about our depth in goal.

because we wont need a prospect of his talent level at that position, when we have clear deficiencies at other positions.
