Dan Russell reported on his radio show Sportstalk just before 11:30pm on July 1 that the Vancouver Canucks have put winger Jannik Hansen on the trade block.

Hansen, 23, was the Canucks' 9th round pick, 287th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in the midst of the Canucks playoff run in 2007 and would spend the 2007-08 season primarily in the minors before earning him a NHL job this past season.

Hansen started on an effective third line with Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows before playing himself off the line on to the fourth line then a healthy scratch.

Bleacher Report is not a valid source.

However, I really think that Hansen is in the block. I don't see him fitting in next year.

Mike Gillis isn't going to get much for Hansen unless he packages him in a deal.

haha yeah his trade value is close to nothing...anyway I thought this was already assumed considering how many forwards we have and how he dropped the ball last season.

Our roster should be pretty full next year. I don't think there will be room for Hansen to play and Hodgson/Grabner will also be trying to fight for a roster spot too. It would make sense if we trade him.
My 2009/2010 Vancouver Canucks

Sedin- Sedin - Burrows
Demitra - Kesler - Samuelsson
Bernier - Wellwood - Raymond
Rypien - Johnson - Hordichuk

Mitchell - Bieksa
Elder - Ehrhoff
Salo - Schnieder

Luongo
Raycroft

If he's given a Qualifying Offer, he still remains RFA and is therefore, tradable.

If we get anything more than a late (5,6,7) round draft pick or an Aaron Rome type depth player, I will be shocked.

he is restricted free agent so we would be trading his rights not a contract

So Dan meant the player's rights are on the trading block? D'oh! This rumour is weak.

I thought Hansen was a good fit and adds some speed, depth to our 4 line, would personally like to see him stick with the team. Solid defensively although he could work on learning how to finish better offensively.

Gillis clearly chose Rypien over Hansen when he resigned him.

HAHA I can just picture how excited the fans of that team would be when they read. "Pittsburgh Penguins (or whoever) have acquired the rights to Jannik Hansen"

Sucks to see him go.. but our team has too many forwards. =|

I think he deserves a roster spot more than Hordichuk. >_>
