You can't just go out and give Ryan Clowe a 4 year deal at that money (and give up compensatory draft picks) when you have Ryan Kesler coming up for a big raise next summer.

Overpayment. Clowe is a decent player on a team with loads of talent. He is a little bit better version of Steve Bernier. Way too much IMO.
Must have been that 2 point -4 playoff series he had that got him that sweet deal.

With this signing, the Sharks are now at 55.5M and only 16 players under contract. They have 8 forwards, 7 defenseman and 1 goalie under contract
somebody will have to go...maybe we can get Ehrhoff off of them...

With that signing they will be over the cap and a few players to sign..they have to make a significant trade to get under the cap

I think sadly, Joe Thornton will be the one that's going.
AND, I'd love to have big Joe on the roster.

It's not Clowe that's the problem, it's Nabokov, Marleau and Thornton that are the problems on that team.
