A lot of Samuelsson's shots came from the point on the PowerPlay too......not exactly a high percentage position. Also, Detroit has a shoot first, ask questions later mentality and many of their players have lower shooting percentages......not sure if that is coaching or holdover from a certain centre ice shot taken years ago in the playoffs (I jest).

I look at it another way, the number of shots Samuelsson got off in the amount of minutes he played shows that the puck was on his stick....a lot. It also shows that given first or second line talent in terms of setting him up, if even 5% more of those find the back of the net the Canucks may have found themselves the least expensive 30 goal man in the NHL. Look at what happened to the shooting percentages of Carter, Pyatt and then Burrows when the took their place alongside Sedins versus other periods in their careers.....Hank/Daniel do set people up nicely....right?

Very well put.
Now the point Valk made wasn't as interesting:( haha
but thanks for the input, Always good to hear some positive outlook on new players!

its beginning to look like the bernier-sedin expectation version 2.0

...but they have played together in the olympics so cdcers have right to optimism

With the Sedins he could easily put up 80-90 points.

Hopefully, but realistically I think he could post around the 60-70 pts range, no problem, assuming he plays with the Sedins for a good chunk of the season. :)

I was watching sportsnet connected and Gary Valk made an interesting point...Mikael Samuelsson scored 19 goals on 257 shots last season, then the season before only 11 on 249 shots.

Steve Bernier had 15 goals on only 137, and the year before 16 on 131 shots.

It just put it in perspective for me, because i remember Bernier having a bunch of chances and missing them...Samuelsson had almost double the chances with pretty much the same goal totals....It just seems like he might be a frustrating player to watch with THAT many shots and not a lot of production.

Well, when you miss your opportunity, you miss the net aswell. So, if he can put the puck on and in the net that would be good.

I know you were being sarcastic, anything over 50 points from Samuelsson would be a bonus

I think the Sedins have a good chance of having a breakout season.

They will most likely play with the best player they've played with since Carter, Burrows or Sameulsson.

I can see them having a big year.

Opening Night Roster:

Sedin Sedin Sameulsson

Kesler Wellwood Burrows

Bernier Hodgson (Raymond Grabner Shirokov)

Rypien Johnson (Hordichuk Hansen)

(Remember Demitra is injured)

I am excited to see what he will do with us in a second or maybe even first line position.
I believe Markus Naslund and Pavel Bure's #'s should get retired. GO CANUCKS GO!

What makes you think The Sedins will suddenly become 90+ players?

Except for H. Sedin, that is.

Kesler was lucky to score 20 this year since the injury to Morrison allowed him to do so.

I doubt Kesler would ever break 15 goals in his career again.
