Blackhawks trying to trade
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Blackhawks are believed to be in the market for a big, physical defenseman, and could be looking the trade route to get one.

Sources tell TFP the Hawks have been scouring the market for a strong blueliner for some time and are willing to give up a roster player in order to get what they want.

"We're looking for the right guy, maybe on the back end," Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon told the Chicago Daily News. "We have a lot of assets we can trade."

It's uncertain, at this point, who the Hawks might be targeting, but one report suggests Tallon would consider dealing forward Patrick Sharp if the right offer came along. Young defenseman Cam Barker, a restricted free agent, is also believed to be available for trade.

Not quite sure if SOB fits the bill for what they're looking for but an O'Brien + _____ for Barker would be amazing. Discuss.

Wouldn't it just be easier to re-sign Cam Barker?

I think they want MEAN. Not just "physical".

They want a hal gil, shane o'brien type i would imagine. and barkers price tag is probably too much for them anyway.

I think its cuz they have their defensemen set and Barker will be asking quite a bit.

When you have Keith, Campbell, Seabrook, Hjarlmasson (sp?), and Sopel (sad to say but hes signed for another 2 years), you can't really afford to throw another 3.5-4.5 million into Barker as well considering Versteeg still needs a contract, and Kane, Toews, and Keith all need significant raises next year.

They have all those d and need to sign Barker on top of that they have a lot of RFA's needing to be signed as well.

22 Brouwer, Troy R 23 0.000 187 0.000 RFA 08/09 Cap Number: 0.675, Salary: 0.700
55 Eager, Ben L 25 0.000 187 0.000 RFA 08/09 Cap Number: 0.600, Salary: 0.650
46 Fraser, Colin C 24 0.000 187 0.000 RFA 08/09 Cap Number: 0.500, Salary: 0.500
32 Versteeg, Kris R 23 0.000 187 0.000 RFA 08/09 Cap Number: 0.492, Salary: 0.490

Brouwer and Versteeg will be due for fair raises.

I'd like to see to Van:

Barker
Brouwer
Sharp

To Chi:

O'brien
Hansen
Bolduc
2nd rounder in 2010
3rd rounder in 2011

Bieksa, O'Brien and Raymond for Versteeg and Barker.

Edler point prediction: 12 goals, 33 assists and 45 points / Edler point counter: 0 goals, 7 assists and 7 points.

You people are nuts. O'Brien does not have this kind of value. If we're trading a physical d-man to Chicago it would be Willie Mitchell for a package including the Barker rights. I doubt they WANT O'brien.

I think they are trying to free up cap without hurting there team. Bieksa wouldn't help clear up cap. Someone who is big bad and tough like SOB, but doesnt hurt the cap that much, is probally more what they are looking for. They have to re-sign Kane And Toews next year also.

O'Brien Rights+Hansen rights for Barker's rights.

A little more amicable than simply writing the 3 mil offer sheet for Barker. They get a big, tough, affordable D-man and a good replacement for Matt Walker.

We get the blue chip puck moving D-Man that we need.

I think they're probably more interested in receiving draft pick compensation for their RFAs. I doubt SOB could bring Versteeg or Barker over.

if given the chance to play the wing the entire season with the sedins you'll see burrows with 40 goals.

They must being giving away free crack today.

O'Brien???

The Hawks aren't trading a young, top-4 dman with upside for a guy who can barely make an NHL roster and is a #6 at best.
Busy cultivating useless good taste.

SUNDIN IS COMING. LOOK BUSY.

We're pretty much where I'd thought we'd be - out of the playoffs and no Demitra in the lineup. Coming in to this season anyone with a brain would be able to recognize that this isn't a playoff team, and they're performing just as I suspected they would.

thats not happening for at least 3 reasons.

1. bieksa/eager incident (hate)
2. i'd hate to play bieksa 4 times a year.
3. why gain 40 points if you're loosing 40 points.

to those who say o'brien is not enough i agree. i proposed o'brien + for barkers rights

Maybe

Shane O'Brien
3rd rounder

he's still young, huge, and exactly what they're looking for. no way they can afford to resign everyone and have enough cap space to sign toews, kane, and keith next year. O'Brien can be signed for about 1.5 i would imagine.

Agreed - Patrick Sharp is a legitimate nhl star!!
Very under-appreciated and doesnt get the media attn like kane/toews do!!

Sharp @ 3.9mill per is arguably one of the best contracts in the nhl ...
Can't believe some of the reports out there make absolutely NO SENSE!!
