1. Beauchemin wants $4.5 million per season. I want him here too but the bottom line is we can't afford him.
2. Kessel won't sign for $3.9 million a season. If he did, Boston would match.
3. CAP SPACE PEOPLE!! CAP SPACE!!

$3.9 million for Phil Kessel?? Are you kidding? Kessel would never sign it, but if he did, you don't think Boston would make room for a player like him at that salary in a heartbeat?
Boston would match.

I have doubts that we would be re-signing Demitra,
Kessel reportedly wants 5mil/season. Although he denied those allegations.
Demitra's salary is at 4mil/season. So once Demitra is off the books, we should be
in better position cap wise, and be able to afford Kessel and his 4-5mil salary.
Also, Eklund (yes, Eklund....) supposedly his "sources" [message boards], said that Toronto and Vancouver
were in negotiations, in trading Schneider + 2nd FOR Kaberle + prospect.
An idea that I thought of was, what if essentially, that trade took place.
Even though our needs on D are more apparent at the moment, what if
we flipped Kaberle to Boston for Kessel / package deal.
It's an idea worth looking at if I was MG. Because Kessel is a good player, who will be better as time goes by.
Edit: I also think OP is living in Lala Land.
Dictionary.com "cap". Nhl.com search: 2009/2010 cap? read. Learn. Comprehend.

I believe so.
If you give an offer sheet to an RFA. and he signs.
Then his team can either leave it, or accept that deal and keep him.
If they decide to keep him with that deal, then it's done and he remains their property.
You cant re-negotiate a new offer sheet, if the organization accepted.
and if they dont accept, that player now, belongs to your organization. And you cannot, renegotiate
the contract. once the offer sheet is signed, the terms and salary cannot be changed or renegotiated.
