Well, Nash is getting paid for as much as he's worth off the ice to the Columbus community and franchise as he is worth on the ice (like Staal, Lecavalier, etc.). Nash is the Columbus franchise, and losing him would kill any chance of the franchise moving forward and getting better. This had to be done despite the slight overpayment, and he'll get paid through his best years.

$7.8M/yr is steep. I like Nash's game but yikes...that is a lot of money to spend. They will have quite a lot of cap space next summer but will also have several holes to fill (Brassard, Boll, Russell = RFAs, Vermette, Modin, Torres, Klesla = UFAs) and the following summer will see Steve Mason become a RFA.

Next time we play him. Watch him.

Yes, he is a 7.8 million franchise player.

Rick Nash is the definition of a franchise player, and is still relatively young.

Good signing, imo.

I don't like this signing one bit. The Jackets made a mistake by signing an unproven playoff player and paying him 7.8 a year :o Shocking amount. But, whatever, good for us I guess, the Jackets will be in Cap issues once the cap drops as much as its predicted to next year :P and it shows what a steal the Sedin's were at 6.1 a year for 5 years

Credit to RK.17. Thanks a lot ;)

Clearly what we should do is trade Pyatt for a cup of Ovechkin's sperm and then we should use it to impregnant like a bunch of women and then we will train those kids from birth to play hockey and then we will sign them to contracts and in a couple of decades no one will be able to stop us!

Damn, I know it was always a long shot, but Nash is one of my favorite players...I always wanted him to be a Canuck :(

Now, when is Luongo going to be re-signed?

Yea you are right, imagine how pissed Jackets fans would be if Nash went to the Leafs.

Nash is capable to score 50 goals on a bad team, well worth it. Plus it's not like they're in cap trouble.

You can thank the Rangers and Flyers for this crap. Edmonton too. If Gaborik can make 7.5, Drury 7, Gomez 7, and Briere 7, you better fracking believe Nash is getting 7.8 and Luongo is getting at least what he will be making this year.
