I really doubt they would trade Kessel for just a first and third rounder. Id want someone like kesler and a pick in return for Kessel

It's simple, just sign him to an offer sheet of 4.5 mil. The compensation for this is a 1st and 3rd round pick. Boston will not match it because they simply have no cap space or interest in bringing back Kessel.

^And just leave a mannequin on the bench to fill the 6th d-man spot because we have 0 cap room? Sure that seems like a reasonable plan.

Sarcasm met with sarcasm. Honestly, I didn't pick up on it because the boards have been inundated with like suggestions.

The funny thing is that you also state that you wouldn't mind blowing up the team--again several months before the season has even started. What is there to blow up? The Canucks have one of the best goalies in the league and two elite forwards, not to mention some great young talent in Kessler, Burrows, and Bieksa (and Hodgson) as well as others. The Canucks currently have great pieces and are just looking to fill a few other spots.

Bieksa and Burrows are not that much younger than the Sedins

Our number one priority right now is a puck moving d-man. I would love to have Cam Barker.

Credit to Crayola.

I really believe MG should take a HARD run at kessel. Being that GMs are able to spend over the cap (by 10% as I think it was), Boston would match the offer, very reluctantly. What I think we should do is talk to Boston, in a similar fashion to how we spoke to Buffalo about Bernier.

Tell them that we have strong interest in Kessel, and want to make a deal. We understand $$$ is an issue, so you would want picks/prospect in return. We could issue an offer sheet to you and create large financial difficulty for you having to match the offer. However if you did match the offer, it would only be b/c you felt that he is worth more thatn a 1st and a 3rd, which would mean you would have to match, sign and trade. So how about we work out a deal, that is fair and avoid that scenario.

Then we trade. We would not make a strong threat of this, but enough so they understand what were getting at.

lets see what happens with the Chicago situation..and if all the Blackhawks RFA's do become UFA's go for Cam barker ..that would be sweet :)

yeah wouldnt it be funny if we got him because of incorect filing or something like that. and we went all the way to the final and Barker scored the winner ;)

Submit a 3 mil offer sheet for 5 years for Barker

If they match, go the UFA or TRADE route to obtain a little more defence.
If not, it's only a second rounder and a STEAL.

I dont think that they will be able to match considering their space and having to sign toews and Kane next year.
If Barker signs it, theres an 85% chance he is ours.

Get Kessel, Boston won't be able to match dont have the cap space.
We could probably get him pretty cheap considering how goals he can score.
35-40.

Get him Gillis

You know that once they match the offer, they can't trade Kessel for one year. They would be in heaps of trouble and would need to trade other players just to accomodate Kessel's salary. Although, If I was Gillis, I would just offer a 4mil 5year deal to sign Kessel who would be Demitra's replacement next year.

2010-2011 lineup

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Sammuelson-Kesler (3.0mil)-Kessel (4.0 mil)
Raymond-Hodgson-Bernier
Hordichuk-Johnson-Rypien

Mitchell (2.0)-Salo(3.5)
Barker (3.5) - Edler (3.75)
Rahimi - Hjarmalsson

Trade Bieksa, O'brien's rights and Grabner/Raymond to Chicago For Barker and Hjarlmasson.

Unfortunately Chicago has 11M cap space, NJD has 12. LA has 13. Vancouver has 7. Boston has 5.

Vancouver is not in a good position to be heading into a bidding war. Nor desperate enough to lose high picks I think. Waiting till the RFAs hit the UFA list would seem logical since there is no one on the list who is absolutely necessary at the moment. In a way Bernier was necessary last year to get some size up front. Cost a 2nd round pick.

Besides Kessel, Zajac, Johnson, Barker will no doubt be in high demand. And since we don't have a 2nd round pick, hands are kind of tied.

(oops. edit. sorry had the wrong numbers up)
1. $1,506,716 - $3,013,434 + 2nd round pick.
2. $3,013,434 - $4,520,150 + 1st and 3rd pick.
3. $4,520,150 to $6,026,867 + 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick.

Anybody offers $4.5 M and Vancouver is out of the running.

All still RFA, haven't been signed

Cam Barker D

Keith Yandle D

Jack Johnson D

Kris Versteeg F

Philip Kessel F

Nikolai Zherdev F

James Wisniewski D

Steve Wagner D

All would be good fits for the canucks

We have Cory Schneider in Manitoba for Luongo's backup; Samualsson to play with the Sedind; Burrows, Kesler and Demitra; Bernier, Wellwood and Pyatt, Hordichuk, Rypien and Johnson. On D we have Edler, Salo, Bieksa, Mitchell, O'Brian, and Rome. What the Canucks need is a top four Dman to help with the powerplay. There are other Dmen that would either fit as well or even better for the Canucks; such as Anton Babchuk RFA) or Paul Mara (UFA).

Dude, you can't be serious. Raymond and possibly a 4th or 5th roud pick for Barker. Hjarlmasson????? What are you thinking? First of all, Barker is not a bad Dman. Hjarlmasson is a nobody. Why would you want to trade a much better Dman plus an average Dman plus a future prospect for two guys???????? Not to mention, where is Demitra, Wellwood, and Pyatt? Kessel would be a great fit, but he is not the Canucks priority.
