Unfortunately Chicago has 11M cap space, NJD has 12. LA has 13. Vancouver has 7. Boston has 5.
Vancouver is not in a good position to be heading into a bidding war. Nor desperate enough to lose high picks I think. Waiting till the RFAs hit the UFA list would seem logical since there is no one on the list who is absolutely necessary at the moment. In a way Bernier was necessary last year to get some size up front. Cost a 2nd round pick.
Besides Kessel, Zajac, Johnson, Barker will no doubt be in high demand. And since
we don't have a 2nd round pick, hands are kind of tied.
(oops. edit. sorry had the wrong numbers up)
1. $1,506,716 - $3,013,434 + 2nd round pick.
2. $3,013,434 - $4,520,150 + 1st and 3rd pick.
3. $4,520,150 to $6,026,867 + 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick.
Anybody offers $4.5 M and Vancouver is out of the running.
