Lol dumbass he's talking about corrupted paid Refs to change the decision of the game to favor the side to generate more revenue for NHL.

Of course the hawks filed it properly. The problem is that at least one player did not get notified before the deadline. The Nhl and the Nhlpa are still looking into this issue. One of the restricted free agents can potentially become a UFA.

Tsn is reporting now that even thought the infraction is minor the consequences can be severe. They could be ufa's....as there is no exscuse and there is certain procedures to follow.

Even if the above is true from TSN and Versteeg and Barker become UFAs - Barker would be in the 3 to 4 mill range at the least (and lots of teams will be interested in him). Is there/could there be room in Vancouver for this without shedding any of the existing cast?

This would be a significant signing, and one that would certainly fill the spot of the departed Ohlund.

Interesting to see how this will play out in the next few days.

Come on make them all ufas!
I was wrong. The Sedins are legit superstars and are IRREPLACEABLE.
Common Myths:
1. A 2 way contract means you can be sent down without clearing waivers. False - All it means is you get paid an ahl salary if sent down and has nothing to do with waivers.
2. You can buyout a player any time during the year. False - There's a specific buyout period window when teams are allowed to buyout players.
3. Sending a rookie down before they played 10 nhl games saves a year on their entry level contract. False - This only applies to CHL players like hodgson who aren't 20 yet and not to players like Shirokov.

Of course the players are unconcerned, this is their chance to cash in the paychecks extra early in their careers.

No - The Hawks did not file properly. On TSN the article states "Multiple sources say it's clearly stated in the collective bargaining agreement, qualifying offers, or QO's, as they're commonly referred to, are not supposed to be mailed, but rather faxed or delivered by courier."

By mailing it they clearly failed to file properly. This is one mess that won't be fixed soon given there admission that they used the mail system at the last moment.

New TSN article on it http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283730

According to both the NHL and the NHLPA, the investigation into how and why the Chicago Blackhawks bungled a number of their qualifying offers is ongoing.

Neither side will comment, however since this story broke Friday evening on TSN.ca, interest into how the league and players association will respond is significant.

If the NHL grants leniency and attempts to sweep this issue away, it's expected the NHLPA will swiftly file a grievance and the matter will go to a hearing.

Sources with hands on knowledge of how qualifying offers have to be filed say as innocent as this mistake may have been, there is no excuse for it, and the league should follow through with the ultimate penalty and declare all players who didn't received proper notification, unrestricted free agents.

Blackhawks stars Kris Versteeg and Cam Barker are among that group.

Neither player has arbitration rights and both should have received qualifying offers of less than $1 million, retaining their playing rights for the 2009-2010 season.

Versteeg, a highly skilled forward was a Calder Trophy nominee, while Barker on the open market would easily command between $3 and $5 million per season.

Dale Tallon told TSN he believed all of the qualifying offers were post marked for June 29th and didn't sound concerned when the matter was discussed on Friday.

Tallon acknowledged there was a mistake made and wondered if the July 1st holiday may have interfered with the players and player agents receiving the qualifying offers via mail, on time.

Multiple sources say it's clearly stated in the collective bargaining agreement, qualifying offers, or QO's, as they're commonly referred to, are not supposed to be mailed, but rather faxed or delivered by courier.

In 2000, the New Jersey Devils forgot to file the paperwork to renew the contracts for Brian Rafalski and John Madden.

Rafalski was scheduled to make $450,000, while Madden would have earned $550,000 had the mistake not been made.

Instead, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello was forced to pay market value rather than allow his two stars to go free.

Rafalski agreed to a 4-year, $11 million dollar extension. Madden signed a 4-year, $7 million dollar deal.

While not identical scenarios, the Devils paid the price for a clerical mistake.

However, because of cap issues, the Chicago Blackhawks have no such out...other than to hope the NHL and the NHLPA find a way.

I would sign Barker for up to 4 mil, maybe even 4.5. I would move any of our top 4 and get a cheap/solid 4th d-man in return.

darn i was hoping that the canucks could get them in UFA instead of RFA

Even as an RFA, we should offer Barker a $3million deal, for 2-3 years

Of course the players aren't worried about it, if it turns out they weren't qualified, they just got early free agency and bigger paydays.

Even if the NHL rules in favour of Chicago (somehow) the NHLPA will likely file a grievance and want to get all of those players UFAs ASAP. This could drag out for a couple of weeks

I think Barker can get more from another team. Even if the Canucks can manage to sign Barker for 3 million a year. Chicago will match and find a way to shed cap space elsewhere as Barker at 3 million a year is a steal in my opinion. Barker can easily get 3.5 million+ on the open market. He got more points in less games than Edler.
