I think I'd prefer the Canucks organization who made decisions based on what's good for the team - not avoiding guys because they got under the Canucks' skin.

He deserves Steve Moore's fate.

I gave you a minus for that. That's a pretty classless sentiment.

I think I threw up a little in my mouth reading this post. BLECH. He's so disgusting, would NOT want him and MANY other Boston players on our team (Bergeron, Chara, Lucic, Horton, Krejci, Boychuck, Seidenberg - just to name a few!!!!!)

^ ha

I'd rather trade Samuelsson than have him playing on the fourth line. let that spot be taken by a younger player and free up some cap space

I don't know that we particularly have a lot of young guys who deserve to own a regular spot on the roster and are knocking on the door.

Having said that, for obvious reasons as stated above you would not have Samuelson on the 4th line. I have no idea how the OP never clued in to how he could keep adding multi-million dollar forwards to a team that is currently at the cap limit in this year's incarnation.

Marchand was a beast for Boston. He's extremely underrated, but Burrows plays a similar game as he does... :emot-parrot:

Higgins had a broken foot I read in a post about injury details. Or something about his foot since round two? It would make sense as he was pretty great up until San Jose series. He still was pretty good , but not the same either. I do not think Lapierre is gonna take up a prospects spot on the fourth line, lol.. Plus depth at center is a must after this year. If one goes down, then the Canucks really need good depth their.

The thing is...is Leino REALLY that much of an improvement over Sammy? He never hit 60 points as the OP indicated and last year was his first real good year. Its a big pay raise for someone relatively unproven. Samuelson in Leino's spot for me (unless better option available)

Laich I like, and I would put Torres on the 4th line with Lappy and Vic
Only losers quote themselves in their sig

I think Columbus would move him for significantly less than Raymond.

I think you could get him for a B-Level prospect (Yann Sauve) or maybe NYI 4th + Vancouver 4th.

Pahlson was actually Malhotras replacement in Columbus (you could even argue Pahlson > Malhotra).

For this to happen, you would have to trade Ballard. I want Laich and Leino too, but it's a lot of cap to clear. Ship out Samuelsson and resign Higgins.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Laich - Kesler - Leino
Higgins - Malhotra - Hansen
____ - Lapierre - Oreskovich

Raymond will be out for the first bit of the season, so there will be a little extra cap space to work with.
What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

If the Cap goes upto 63 mil, we should try for that, but also keep Torres and Higgins. Better to have depth at forward than lose those 2 and go for a big star.

This team needs a forward who can hit and that's Torres. No one else other than Kesler and Lapierre on this team is willing to lay the body on the forecheck, and Torres is a guy who is legitamitely feared across the league.

Samuelsson and Ballard traded. Hodgson is used as trade bait to move Ballard.

Also Shirokov plays on the second line with Kesler and Langenbrunner while Raymond is out with his back injury. Higgins drops down a line.

Realistic?

Looking forward to the draft and off-season moves. This team needs major changes.

Needs to get more skilled, physical, faster, younger.

Also, He is one of the biggest reasons we lost. Canucks fans can complain as much about him, but at the end of the day Marchands a good player.

Not sure if you're trolling here or not. Hard to tell from the number of previous posts you have. Regardless, I was thinking along the same line yesterday. Not necessarily that I'd like to see the squirt wear the Orca, but, rather that he was allowed by his coach and team to be the exact type of pest that Lapierre apparently was told not to be by Mike Gillis when he acquired him. As much as I dislike Marchand --- long before the SCF --- he does appear to be one of those players who plays better and contributes more when he's on the edge a bit. You know, the way Lapierre used to play before he became a Canuck. Sometimes there are just certain players whom you've just got to lengthen their leash, if not let go of the reins altogether in order to get the absolute best out of them. Brad Marchand showed in the SCF that he's one of them. Subban is another one. While the Canucks were more concerned with "being classy" or turning the other cheek and taking advantage on the PP, they failed to have a backup plan in case that didn't work, which it didn't against the Bruins. How the hell did the Canucks get caught off-guard regarding the Bruins and their after-the-whistle antics anyway? Don't they have advance scouts? While I won't go as far as you and wish he played for the Canucks, still, I think it will be interesting to watch what MG does with RFA Maxim Lapierre, who has every bit the pest-like ability Marchand does in order to make an impact with this club next season. The questions is, if he re-signs/is re-signed, will he be allowed to play that type of game again? If that's the best way to get the absolute best from him, I hope so.

but I'm surprised no one has mentioned there is no reason Boston would get rid of him.

Don't be surprised. This is CDC, remember? You're dealing with the same people who know full-well Luongo has a hard NTC yet they still insist on starting ridiculous "lets trade Luongo" threads. It's also the same people dumb enough to believe the Predators will trade Shea Weber...to the Vancouver Canucks! I could go on, but, you know where this is going. It isn't pretty.

Of all the classless players Marchand is near the top of the list. Unfortunately he can play as well as being a total a- hole.

I like Liach & Leno! A different grit and skill set.

I think, no I'm quite sure that it does not address size and toughness on our 3rd and 4th line. It makes us weaker. Our top line also got exposed for needing more size against Nashville, Chicago at times & certainly Boston. And I think Keslers line is already shutting down opposing top lines, and Raymond Samuelsson are scoring roughly the EXACT same number of points as those in your proposal for a mill less each. So as much as everyone wants to see an all star winger on our 2knd line to make Kess a hall of famer, it is not that high a priority.

A good idea does not always make a good plan.

I also hold the (unpopular) opinion that we need a top line defenseman; not 6 guys who each have 1 or 2 things to offer. And a winger for the TWINS, not Kesler.

First off the obvious, The Canucks need to secure their defense. I would like to bring both Bieksa and Ehrhoff back at the right price and Salo if he can take $1.5-2M. For defenseman, I would have a team cap of $4.5M. (I dont think anyone should make more than Hamhuis) After our defense is settled, the 2 guys I would really like the Canucks to go after are Brooks Laich and Ville Leino. Laich is a big rugged forward (exactly what we need) Both guys are young, can produce 60+ points and will give us a potent 2nd line playing with Kesler.

Sedin(6.1)-Sedin (6.1)-Burrows (2)
Laich(3.5)-Kesler(5)-Leino(3.5)
Hansen(1.3)-Malhotra(2.5)-Raymond(2.5)
Samuelsson(2.5)-Lapierre(1.3)-Oreskovich (.825)

Hamhuis(4.5)-Bieksa (4.0)
Edler(3.25)-Ehrhoff(4.5)
Salo(1.5)-Ballard(4.2)
Rome(.75)

Total Cap = $59.825 (cap should be going up to $63-$64M)

Gone:

Higgins
Glass
Torres
Tambellini
Alberts

Agree? disagree? add anything?

How would you fellows like Ben Eager playing on the 4th line next year. I know how much he's detested by our fans but if Vigneault can take a little of the animal out of him I think he could be an asset to this club.

Forecaster Yearbook on Ben Eager: The fact Eager can score at a 20-point pace, despite just over eight minutes of ice time per game, speaks volumes. He's an aggressive agitator with a little talent, along the same lines as Daniel Carcillo, except bigger and stronger.

I believe he's better than Glass or Oreskovich...........IF VIGNEAULT CAN CONTROL HIM ??? He is a UFA.

I doubt THORBURN or Marchand would have gotten away with their antics.

YOUR THOUGHTS, PLEASE. ???

The 4th line does not play enough on this team to make a significant acquisition and Ben Eager is absolutely NOT the answer.

Lapierre re-signing or maybe a guy like Draper if they don't re-sign him in Detroit should fit at center. Aaron Volpatti and Victor Oreskovich should be the 4th line wingers in my opinion.

Players like Eager or Thronton can't play for us in the playoffs given the the not so level playing field offered to us by Bettman. We'd be penalized to death.

There are other options as well like Cam Jansen, Fredy Sjostrom, Eric Godard.

IMO Sjostrom, a tough Swede, a PK specialist, is the best choice.

I think though, AV should play the 4th line more minutes. We should have a usable 4th line like Boston's. Their 4th liners are all PK specialists, very impressive I have to admit.
