for $3.5 million, not a chance.......if there was anyway to get him for $1 million, it might be worth the risk. not sure what happened to him, he had such a great scoring touch. it seems to be a mental issue with him. at 29, if he could find his game again, he'd still have a few good years left. ofcourse, thats if he has anything good left.

If you grab a guy off waivers the team you stole him from is on the hook for a portion of the salary, not sure how much but i do think he would cost us less then 3.5 I think

Sign him for MAXIMUM salary, 10-year no-trade clause, along with every other clause so we get screwed over.

Dirty cheap and a two way contract.

He has to prove he can play in the NHL still.

And of course, having 50 goals one year had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the fact his linemates were Thornton and Marleau

Cheechoo has been Bought out... That means it costs two-thirds of remaining contract value to the club doing the buyout. It has no play on his next contract. Any team can sign Cheechoo for any price without fear of a previous salary haunting them. He is a FREE AGENT

I think that GIllis will shop Kevin Bieksa once the other defensemen get signed (Volchenkov, Hamhuis, Martin, Zbynek). But if none of them sign with us, then I'm thinking Bieksa plays out his last year for the Canucks.

If there's a team out there desperate for a defenseman, Bieksa's at $3.75M is reasonable. I'm hoping we'd be able to acquire a big bodied, versatile forward for the 3rd line in exchange.

I think its a good likelihood that this is the plan... there are very few defencemen out there that are on upgrade on Bieksa (all noted above). That means a lot of teams will be losers in attempting to get one of them. If we manage to get one, preferably Volchenkov if we could afford him... then there is suddenly a very large market for Bieksa amongst those teams who are shut out in the top guys.

I am sure Burke would love Bieksa but he has nothing to give and has been enough of a jackass to the Canucks that he is certainly not going to get a good deal from us.

no way, he seems to have lost the passion for the game and isn't even half the player he was during the 50 goal year.

He has suffered a slew of injuries since his 50 goal season. He's nowhere near that player right now. There's a good reason he's being placed on waivers.

Definitely worth a chance at one million, one year contract.

Former 50 goal scorers from just a 2 or 3 years ago are well worth it

New venue, new teammates, new coach = good chance to prove himself

Miller is not on our list. It's Lack as our #1. There is no reason we would have traded both Schnieder and Luongo if we never intended to give Lack the #1 starting job.  Furthermore, the salary and term Miller is looking for is not in our favor.

Do you guys think Dustin Boyd could be good as a 3rd or 4th liner on our team? The predators haven't decided to sign him and he still has potential to be a pretty good 3rd liner. He will be cheap too at 750K and would be better than players like Glass, Bolduc or Hordichuk on the 4th line. He can replace Johnson at a cheaper price and he had 24 points in 78 games. I hope Gillis takes a chance on him if the Preds don't sign him. BTW, he has good size at 6 feet and 192 lb.

I would take him for 1 million 1 year contract. I would put him with the sedins and see if they can work some of there magic. If they could turn pyatt and carter into 20-30 goal scorers why cant they do the same with cheechoo.

Our line up can look something like this:

sedin-sedin-cheechoo
burrow-kesler-sammy
raymond-hodgson-schroeder
oreskabitch-bloduc-hansen/ or any plugs we can come up with

It gives us more options with the second and third line and if it doesnt work out no biggy. Just waive him, buy him out etc.

Its a low risk with a high reward

I would if the team ima fan of wasnt the canucks!

Canucks have much better forwards then Cheechoo this is like the reast of the NHL asking if they would pick up Demitra. "He's a former 90 point man!"

Times of changed I just don't think he could put up big numbers again.

A very weak weak line.

Benning will be fired next year. Hope he enjoys screwing around for a few months. I just cant believe this. Another injured BC player. We just got rid of garrison. Seems like the canucks and linden just wanted any BC born player. Doesn't matter if hes good or not. We don't need another Linden to get us to game 7 of the Stanley cup and lose. We need someone to win us a cup.

5 million a year for Vrbata? 6 million for Miller? Kesler for Bonino and 24th instead of 10th pick or one of their top prospects? Garrison for scraps?

ive already lost faith in JB. Ive never EVER had this bad of a feeling about management.

So i was just browsing to free agent fowards and i see Frolov name
This guy is a 30 goal scorer here are more info of this guy

Like Kovalchuk, the KHL is calling Frolov and he may be tempted to bolt for the money overseas. The Kings don't appear too keen on signing him if his asking price is going to be high, which it likely is despite the fact that he had only 19 goals and 51 points last season. Other teams could also pass if he wants too much dough. Frolov is still a talent, though, and a two-time 30-goal scorer.
