Still, can we really afford to just try radical projects in this point of our team development? Like another guy said our first two lines and pretty much set so he would be penciled in on the third if he is not awesome out there. I can't see us waiting 30 games while we have Sammy and Burr if he is not clicking and I don't think he is a third line checker either. I don't know if he played on the third line in Ottawa all year but the couple he did I watched and he is not suited for that role on a good team.

He had Alffie and Kovalev ahead of him on the right wing so he did play 3rd line. I think Ottawa bought him out because he's not worth 3.5 million cap space. No one is saying to give him a 30 game try out. The canucks are going to sign more players than they have spots available. They are financially helthy and will spend significantly more than the cap. They wil bury the extra contracts in the minors like they did last year with Lukowich and even Schnieder when he did'nt work out. I think Burrows had a great year and might even have a better one next year, but he is self adimittadly a third liner if it wasn't for the Sedins. PPl on CDC think we're geting Ladd from Chicago for the third line, they're dreaming unless we give up schroeder and a pick or something similar. I think Gillis will make one or two Bold moves and see if they work out. IF not bury the contract. No harm no foul. You gotta remember a million dollars is pretty much minnimum these days in the NHL. The other poster who speaks of canucks 101 and how their forward lines are SET forgot that the canucks need 4 forward lines not 2. He only named 6 players in his response.

no one is going to pick him up on waivers
after he is bought out, his best chance of landing a NHL job is a 1 year cheap contract
he CAN play gritty, which would be good on our third line, plus he CAN put the puck in the net, and if we are able to get him cheap, then where is the harm if we can get him for $800K - 1M.

Low risk - High reward.

YES exactly, He's 6.0 200 lbl. not bad size and can put the puck in the net. Ottawa bought him out because he's to pricy at 3.5 million. If they had him for a million there's no way any one buys him out. If he does'nt work out waive him and send to minors. just like we did with Brad Ludowich. he made 1.6 million in the minors last year. For those who don't know if he's in the minors his sallary would NOT count aginst the cap if he's sent down.

OK Lets assume signing him for 1 mill is a good idea but ...WHAT IF he turned into a bad apple to the team... screw up our team morale...!? Even he signed for league min...I dont even want him if thats the case... If he still struggled in a hockey intense environment, he might go mad and release his stress in the locker room...WHO KNOWS. If Gillis did sign him... I guess Gillis and co did a 'criminal record check on him aka character check'... If he didnt want to sign him...I am fine with that.. I believe in Gillis's ability. Gillis said already before... For all the players he picked up ...they need to meet all the requirement that he and his scouts have set... e.g. everyone knows ollie jokinen and Nathan Horton are good players in Florida.. doesnt mean they will fit well in our system... Look at what happened to Jokinen... He might be one of the reasons why flames screwed up so bad...!? I am glad that Gillis didn't pick them up and that's why we didnt screw up like the Flames did!!

I dont think a 30-goal scorer is what we need right now. I'd much prefer it if we got Ladd instead

how about Ruslan Fedotenko? A good solid LW who have TWO stanley cup rings and can score big goals..good for the third line if we cant find any other UFA...and a Colby armstrong or someone chepaer for RW with Hodgson in the middle

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

i don't see the harm in signing him to a one year deal if he goes ufa. might be a good return, and he's shown he has skills.

There is a reason he was bought out.
HE DOESN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE!
Why is it that CDCers think the Canucks should pick up every bum that is available?

Because they think the Sedin twins will turn those bums into stars again. I do understand their way of thinking. After all these years I think we are all getting a little desperate to win.

I've never seen a guy go from the penthouse to the outhouse so fast....The Senators are treating him like a hot potato..plus no other team will touch him....sounds like there's a few issues?

Kamil Kreps (I do believe Florida isn't going to offer a tender)
- 6'2 194
- Excells Defensively
- Good in Face-Offs
- Good Shot-Blocker (50 in 76 Games)
- 81 Hits in 76 Games
- Can play either Center or Wing
- Owns some Playmaking Ability (19 Points in 08/09)

He would also come relatively cheap (under 1 million)

Tanner Glass - Kamil Kreps - Victor Oreskovich

IMO it would be a productive 4th Line for us...a mix of grit, size, and defensive awareness.
They would score more goals than a line of Horidchuk - Johnson - Rypien

The ex-Panthers Line :P

I would prefer to have Kreps on the wing, and then have a veteran like John Madden in the middle. If he can block shots, and have the presence of Madden, and someone like Rypien/Oreskovich on the other, that could be a dominant fourth line.
