The Province:

Quote

Alexandre Bolduc will get into the lineup right away tonight against the Phoenix Coyotoes after being recalled from the Canucks AHL affiliate in Winnipeg on Monday.

Bolduc will replace winger Jannik Hansen on the fourth line. He'll play centre, so Rick Rypien move over to Hansen's spot on right wing. The move gives the Canucks an extra forward, after usual fourth-line centre Ryan Johnson didn't make the trip with a foot ailment.

Bolduc injured his left shoulder while up with the Canucks in an Oct. 29 game against Los Angeles. He missed 13 games on the injured list and was sent to the Manitoba Moose in late November.

“Jannik's play has slipped a little bit and we've got a guy in Bolduc who can take face-offs from the left side, since (Johnson) isn't there,” said Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. “He's a young play with a lot of up-side and he's going through some consistency issues.”

Bolduc, 24, has appeared in seven games with the Canucks this season, registering two penalty minutes. In 13 games with Manitoba this season, he has collected 20 penalty minutes and three points (2-1-3).

“I'm excited about it and it's nice to be here again,” said Bolduc, following the Canucks morning skate in suburban Phoenix. “The shoulder is pretty good. I 've been playing lots down (in Manitoba). I've been taking a lot of hits and face-offs and it's felt good. It's ready to go.”

Rypien will play RW on the fourth line, not Bolduc.

Bolduc's the stronger centre.

Well, Hansen has done a lot of nothing recently.

I attended the last two home games. I didn't even notice Hansen out there.

Yep, that's what it says on the article.

Kind of surprising that Hansen's being sat out. I guess Hordichuk has been playing better. I like Hansen though :(

Wow, Hordichuk drew a penalty (more McGratton being an idiot then anything) and didn't do anything stupid...what a marvelous performance.

Hansen at least has upside, can kill penalties and might score.

Hansen is way better than Hord, Rypien or Bolduc
I hope MG locks up Hansen long term while he doesnt even realize his own potentialhe could be like a Rene Bourque type player

No kidding. At least Hansen is a good penalty killer (only gets marginally less PK ice time than Kesler and Burrows) and great at eating up extra seconds with his speed and hustle after the puck is cleared. Rypien and Hordi just play 7 mins a game and you can only hope that they don't do anything bad. It should be ?-Bolduc-Hansen. Rypien and Hordi dressed in a game is redundant.
Untouchables: Hansen, Higgins, Lapierre, Burrows, Hamhuis, Tanev.
Mostly untouchable: Sedins (only 2 more yrs on contract), Malholtra (1 yr left on contract).
Drive to airport: Raymond, Booth, Bieksa, Rome, Alberts.

Its not Gillis. Its AV. He has consistently doghoused Hansen . The guy is a 9th round pick and what does AV expect? 20 goals and 200 penalty minutes?

I know hes the coach and is the professional but the Hansen Im looking at out there is playing fine of his role and minutes.

I thought Bolduc was solid, but unspectacular, until he got hurt.

Guess AV is expecting a tight game where faceoffs will be more important than speed and flash. Hansen hasn't done much lately towards getting off the 4th line, though.

Something is wrong with AV if he is scratching Hansen over Hordi.
You dont need Hordi and Rypien dressed at the same time because they have the same role except Rypien does it better, so Hordi should be scratched in the first place
Hopefully this is just to give Hansen alittle scare to show him he doesnt have a locked spot on this team. Hansen ripped it up the first few games he played and now he cooled off so he gets scratched???...

Hansen has speed and a shot....things that Hordi doesnt have.

Hansen
GP 20 G 4 A 3 P 7 +/- 0 SOG 29 PIM 6 TOI/G 12:22

Hordi
GP 24 G 1 A 1 P 2 +/- -3 SOG 5 PIM 43 TOI/G 6:52

You cant tell me there is anything wrong with Hansen's numbers for the type of roll he has on this team.

Matt Pettinger's numbers are better than Hordi and we all know what happened to him.

Im a huge Hansen fan but it makes sense. Hansen is a work horse and got rewarded by getting put on the 2nd line for a few games. He wasn't able to produce there so he got bumped down. Bernier and Glass developed good chemistry on the 3rd line so Hansen is put on to the 4th line. With Johnson out and Hordi playing well the last 2 games Bolduc was brought back.

Typical move by AV. He loves his grinders cuz he used to be one! Hansen has potential. He was great with Kes and Burr before. He should at least get a chance on the 3rd line.

Yep, AV move. Hansen is never getting out of AV's doghouse. Personally, if I was Hansen, I would make it clear that I want a better opportunity to play or a ticket out of Vancouver. It is painfully obvious that Hordichuk and Rypien have to play completely and absolutely terrible hockey for 10-15 games in a row for one of them to sit, while Hansen needs to only have a poor period to get to ride the pine.

I would definitely be asking to go somewhere else.

Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:

1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

Hansen has been a little quiet offensively lately, but still better than our whole fourth line.

why are so many of you guys bashing coach AV's decision?

Its not a bad move.

The past few games Hansen has pretty much been nonexistent. In the game against the flames, Hordichuk played quite well and unfortunately Hansen did not. AV has shown in the past that he likes to ride the hot hand. If benching Hansen, playing Hordi, and calling up Bolduc makes the team better than so be it! And besides its not like its a long term thing. AV just wants to send message to not only Hansen but all the players to work hard day in day out to create consistency.

I think that Hordichuk should be scratched. Bolduc is here because AV and MG want to see if he can play because if they like wat they see, he'll be our fourth line center next year

I'm confused, not long ago Hansen was getting some second line time because his play was strong. A couple of mediocre games and he's not even in the line up? I like the ocmpeition for positions, we haven't had that very often. But he's juggling players when the team is on a winning streak.

Bolduc is a group 6 FA. If the Canucks had played him in over 80 games he would have remained a RFA. They've only played him in 14.

He's a wasted asset. And now there going to send a message to Hansen by playing Bolduc? Because Hansen had 1 bad game? And I suppose no one else on the team has. :(

Oyy, nice work AV. Way to build up Hansen's confidence. He's cleary the best forechecker on the team and plays with a lot of heart. So he had a bad game and hasn't been on the score sheet for the past few games, it doesn't mean he's not worthy of being in the line-up. I just hope Jannik's able to step up his game the next time he's in the line-up. He's often responded quite well to Vigneault's harsh criticism. That being said, I doubt Bolduc's proven he's better than Hansen, so this is probably Vigneault showing Hansen into his dog house, once again.

I agree. Hansen has been pretty good given his limited ice time. Way better than Hordi or Ryp. Only one of those two should dress and Hansen should be on that 4th line. Bad move on AV's part.

I'm pretty pissed to see Hordi dress over Hansen. Is Phoenix a super tough team that we need more fighters in there? Not that I know of.

I remember Hordi saying something like guys won't fight him. They won't fight Hordi but will fight Rypien?

I like you AV......but this was really silly.

As far as centerman go....at least Bolduc is a 4th line face off upgrade (sort of) from Rypien who is ghastly at the dot.
