Keep in mind the value of the assets we would have to give up to acquire said player.
Scott Niedermayer? Brings the experience. One of the most winning defenseman ever. He's getting old, but he's still fast and can put up a decent amount of offense. He's from BC and has expressed interest in joining Vancouver before.
Tomas Kaberle? It is said he is ready to waive his NTC. He puts up the offense, but his defense is barely an upgrade of O'Brien.
Dennis Seidenberg? Ehrhoff's partner on the German blueline. He comes with a hard shot and a lot of grit. He broke Horton's leg for god's sake!
Aaron Ward? Hmm. Slow and aging, but comes with 3 Stanley Cup rings. His value would be considerably low.
Jordan Leopold? He's better than Rome or Baumer, but not a top-4 defenseman on a contending team. However, he can play in the NW division as he proved with Calgary on their cup finals run.
Dan Hamhuis? Local Smithers boy might find himself out of favour in Nashville with Franson, Blum and Sulzer getting close to NHL ready. It is unlikely Nashville will unload him at the deadline, but you never know.
Marek Zidlicky? A little undersized, but puts up the offense. A good smooth skating defenseman who has proven he can play in the NW division.
Carlo Colaiacovo? Every time I try to watch him play, he's injured.. Just kidding. Kind of. He has the tools, but is injury-prone as hell and can be inconsistent.
Darryl Sydor? Brings experience. At this point in his career, he's a 6th defenseman at most.
If you are thinking of somebody else, just tell me and I will add them. I'm just wondering the general CDC consensus.
Players added from other members:
Ryan Parent? 22 year old, not quite showing up to his potential in Philly. However, the key point is that the potential is there.
Garnet Exelby? Slow, but 'physical'. Has been called out for being lazy this season. Not very offense, but he's pretty huge at 6'1, 215 pounds.
