Byfuglien :)

One of my personal favorites that have come out of the PG Cougars organization.

I don't know how I forgot about him.

I hope the Cougars can get some revenge tonight in the rematch.

Thanks, Chiklets for the Trevor sig.

Cunningham WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The WHL Player of the Week is forward Craig Cunningham of the Vancouver Giants.

Cunningham picked up 9 points, scoring one goal and eight assists to go with a +6 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Giants to a 3-0-0-0 record.

On Wednesday, October 20th, the Giants were in Kelowna to face the Rockets. Cunningham collected five assists to lead Vancouver to a come-from-behind victory over the Rockets 7-5. He was also named the games 1st Star. On Friday, October 22nd, the Giants played host to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Cunningham had a pair of assists in the Giants 5-2 victory over the Wheaties. The next night the Everett Silvertips were in Vancouver to face the Giants. Cunningham scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Giants 3-1 win over the ‘Tips.

Cunningham’s 9 points this past week helped maintain his top ranking among all WHL scorers with 31 points (7 goals, 24 assists) in 15 games played. The Vancouver Giants have won three straight and have also collected points in eight of their last 10 games, placing them in top spot of the WHL BC Division with an 8-5-1-1 record for 18 points.

Cunningham, from Trail, BC, is playing his 20 year old season and has spent his entire WHL career with the Vancouver Giants. The 2010 4th round pick of the Boston Bruins has appeared in 274 WHL games, scoring 208 points (83 goals, 125 assists). Cunningham has also skated in 58 WHL playoff games with the Giants acquiring 42 points.

The WHL has also nominated Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Carruth posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 47 of 48 shots faced for a remarkable 0.480 goals-against average and 0.979 save percentage. Carruth, a native of Shorewood, MN, back-stopped the Winterhawks to 2-0 shut-out over the Everett Silvertips and a 2-1 shoot-out win over the Portland Winterhawks, earning a 2nd Star selection each night.

Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week
Oct. 18 – Oct. 24: Craig Cunningham, Vancouver Giants
Oct. 11 – Oct. 17: Sena Acolatse, Prince George Cougars
Oct. 4 – Oct. 10: Darian Dziurzynski, Saskatoon Blades
Sept. 27 – Oct. 3: Brad Ross, Portland Winterhawks
Sept. 24 – Sept. 26: Tyler Maxwell, Everett Silvertips

Thank-you Boston for trying to lowball Cunner so he came back to the Giants.

Giants and Bruins on an Alberta trip right now.

Giants in Lethbridge tonight, Red Deer Friday to face Nuggent-Hopkins and the Rebels and then Sunday up to Edmonton to tangle with the Oil Kings.

Bruins are in Edmonton tonight and the game is on Shaw TV. No lucky tip in win Canucks on the tube tonight so tune in! Friday in Calgary to take on the rather flacid Hitmen and then on to the Hat to take on the Tigers and the loudest 4006 fans you will ever hear.

Howse is doing well. 18pts in 11 games so far. No points tonight in Edmonton in a 2-1 Bruins win.

Bruins were lucky tonight. If they were playing anyone else but the Oil Kings they would have lost given the number of turn overs right at their own blue line.

ISLANDERS SEND NIEDERREITER BACK TO PORTLAND

Thursday October 28, 2010 UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Islanders forward Nino Niederreiter is going back to the Western Hockey League and the Portland Winterhawks.

Niederreiter, chosen with the No. 5 pick in this year's draft, was given the news Thursday that he will be returning to the Portland Winterhawks.

The decision had to be made now that the 18-year-old centre has played in nine games with the Islanders. By sending him back to Portland, the Islanders ensured his entry-level contract won't start until next year.

Niederreiter had one goal and one assist in his brief stint with the Islanders.

Last season, as a rookie with Portland, Niederreiter had 36 goals and 24 assists in 65 games, then added eight goals and eight assists in 13 post-season contests.

He also earned all-star honours at the world junior championship when he led Switzerland with 10 points _ including six goals _ in 10 games.

Uh-Oh...Well lock the west up for Portland I quess.

I think just under a month. There used to be the WHL thread in General Hockey but it died so now all Junior Hockey has it's own forum. Best idea that Stealth has been asked about and granted IMHO.

On a lesser scale. Blair Betts. I remember that period (Betts, Bouck, Myers in goal) when everyone felt like we had a chance to be in it for the long haul. That was like the last time we were any good I think. Hopefully our curse gets lifted this year!

Yeah. They are giving the kids sizes to the kids they get at 90sec timeouts to answer the 3 ways to save energy promos.

I think about 2 years ago at the end of season sale they were selling them off for $50.

Check out the latest Highlight of the Week.

http://www.whl.ca/video/index

Cougars have 2 highlights, Rockets have one and Brenden Jensen is in the #4 spot with a great glove save against the Wheat Kings.

As a collection of 5 highlights I think this is one of the better collections.

Hunter and Boogaard, forgot about those two. Actually, I was watching the Rangers game Saturday VS. Toronto, and Jim Hughson pointed out that Boogaard was a former Cougar, I just sort of giggled forgot we had that goon.

I remember when the Multiplex (CN Centre) was packed for the playoffs, I really want to re-live those times again.

The Cougars have also had Justin Pogge, Nicholas Drazenovic, and Dana Tyrell as other notables. They haven't made a impact in the NHL, but they're in the AHL somewhere, still something to be somewhat proud of.

When the Hawks come to PG I definitely have to go check it out.

In other news seems like the Cougars are either dominating or being dominated.

For sure. And the Giants also, I really want to watch Gallagher and Cunningham.

Tyrell scored his first of the year maybe first NHL goal last week with TB.

For those WHL highlites, I was at that game for number3.

As for the CN center being packed again for playoffs I think we will have to make a push this year with Connolly, cause I have a feeling he will be gone after this year.
But McCabe24 did you ever go any Cougar games when they played in the Coliseum? The days of Souray and Petrovicky.

The Coliseum? Where the Spruce Kings play now? No, was to young, and if I did, I don't remember.

Connolly is most likely gone after this season, which is why they need to make something happen this year. Connolly is the Cougars team this year.
