Think of Manny as a comparison (without the first round hype). He has scored a lot of SH goals this season and is excellent in the corners, good speed, and with a good shot. Not to worry though as Darren Archibald gave a solid effort while shorthanded to strip the puck from Fronts defender Erik Gudbranson before proceeding to exit the zone on a breakaway where he made no mistake in sniping a shot post-to-post and in to give the 'Dogs a 2-0 lead. Concentrating more on hockey and not getting into as many fights maybe? He use to average a penalty minute per minute played. nuck nit Posted March 25, 2011 Share Posted March 25, 2011 Archi kicks Brampton butt: Darren Archibald led the Niagara IceDogs to a 7-1 victory as he notched four goals to help capture the first game of the playoff series against the Brampton Battalion Thursday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Jesse Graham, Dougie Hamilton, Mitchell Theoret and Victor Terreri also had stellar games for the 'Dogs with multi-point nights while Mark Visentin played a solid game between the pipes stopping 39 shots. The game immediately had a physical tone to it as both teams were throwing their weight around and getting under one another's skin, which led to two assistant captains, Alex Friesen and Sam Carrick, picking up coincidental roughing minors early in the first. Dougie Hamilton showed how versatile a player he can be by getting the fans and bench going with a massive open-ice hit in the neutral zone shortly after. With an energetic crowd behind them, the IceDogs opened the scoring at the 14:28 mark of the period as Darren Archibald let a laser go from the point to give the home team a 1-0 lead with the help of Myles Doan and Victor Terreri. Myles Doan thought he had put the 'Dogs up 2-0 at the end of the second, but his shot hit the post and the score would remain 1-0 after 20 minutes. The IceDogs came out hard to start the second as Mitchell Theoret scored on a shot he took from behind the Battalion net after accepting the puck from Mike Schwindt to increase their lead to 2-0. To follow Theoret's goal, Darren Archibald put home his second tally of the game on the power play by letting a wicked wrist shot go from just inside the circle to give Niagara a 3-0 lead just over five minutes into the frame. Dougie Hamilton then made it 4-0 with a beautiful goal at the 12:29 mark of the period to force Battalion coach Stan Butler to make a goaltending change, taking out Cody St. Jacques and putting in Matej Machovsky. The next bit of action wasn't so positive for either team as Alex Friesen laid a bone-crushing check-from-behind to a Battalion defender in the Brampton zone, which sparked a brouhaha behind the net. No individual fights occurred, however, Friesen was given a five minute checking-from-behind penalty and a game misconduct, while Dominic Alberga was given a two-minute roughing minor. With the play at four-on-four for two minutes, Darren Archibald wasted no time in completing the hat-trick as ripped home another powerful shot to increase the IceDogs' lead to 5-0 with just 19 seconds left in the period. As the two teams killed of the remaining seconds, the 'Dogs would take the 5-0 lead into the second intermission although Brampton led the shot clock 29-19. Mark Visentin played a solid game in net through two periods to maintain the commanding IceDogs lead. The Battalion finally broke Visentin's shutout 6:28 into the third period as captain Stephon Thorne converted with the help of Sam Carrick and Barclay Goodrow to cut the IceDogs lead to 5-1. Darren Archibald obviously wasn't happy with a four goal lead as his big body presence in front of the Battalion net allowed him to score yet another goal at the mark to give him four markers on the night and the 'Dogs a 6-1 lead. Victor Terreri picked up his second assist of the night on the play while Jason Wilson also added a helper. Niagara capped things off with another goal coming from Milan Doudera with just six seconds left in the game to give the IceDogs a 7-1 victory over the visiting Brampton Battalion. Doudera was playing in his first game in months as he suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the majority of the regular season. The second game of the series will take place this Sunday, Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. the PowerAde Centre in Brampton. It might take a couple years for him to make the team, I'm just trying to hedge the expectations before people start screaming bust if he doesn't make the team next season. Oh I understand, especially on these boards, but he seems at least capable of Oreo just with more abilities with his fists than him.
