Seems like a good signing. I love the CDC enthusiasm about him and the potential power forward superstar MG grabbed from nowhere. Not to be a downer, but...Why wasn't he drafted? Decent points and good size. What's the problem, because there has to be one.
List of players who were never drafted:
Niklas Backstrom (goalie)
The list goes on, but you get the point. Sometimes players just fall completely off the radar because of size issues, attitude problems, slow development, or just not getting recognized because they're on poor teams.
Steven Anthony is a good example of a guy who at 16 was touted to be a future first round pick, and was even drafted number 1 by the Sea Dogs. But for whatever reason, his development took a turn in the wrong direction, and he just fell off of scout's radar. It took us trading for a 7th round pick to finally draft this guy.
I think it's just a matter of there being so much talent in the OHL, that sometimes guys get lost in the mix and just fade away. Basically if you're not on a good team, the chances of you being able to show your skills to scouts is not going to be as good.
There's also the chance that this guys got an attitude problem, and scouts just don't think he's mature enough to be an NHL player. However at 20 years old, I wouldn't expect him to be that mature. I would actually prefer if he had an attitude to be honest. Seems like we're missing some of that swagger in our prospect pool...
