StanleyCup=HolyGrail
Calgary 24 Games remaining. 64 points = 64 + 48 = 112 max potential points LA 27 Games remaining. 63 points = 63 + 54 = 117 Chicago 26 Games remaining. 62 points = 62 + 52 = 114 These are the teams not currently in the playoffs with the best chance to bump somebody out of the playoffs. Vancouver has 81 points with 26 games remaining. In order to avoid missing the playoffs the Canucks must out perform teams which are currently not in the playoffs plus all teams currently in playoff positions. In order to know how many points we need to guarantee a playoff spot we take the highest achievable total of a current non playoff team. In this case 117 as of tonight. This 117 total +1 then represents what every team currently in the conference needs to gurantee a playoff spot. In our case we need 118 - 81 = 37. Or 18.5 more wins. Losses by teams below the bar also bring this number down. However, the number is always the highest achievable total by a non playoff team. A win by us always brings it down by 1 game. Where as a loss by others might not.

Bieksa's Quote
http://www.sportsclu...st/Canucks.html - Take a look here. It says we'll need a 8-17-1 Record to guarantee a playoff spot. So as early as March 3rd.

Captain Bob
Philly, Pittsburgh and Dallas lose today. Pretty good day for our magic number. Only thing that could have made it perfect in my eyes would have been a Detroit loss. Edmonton is getting shelled, so their number will be one notch closer to zero.
