what is more important is the few games leading to round 1. guys have to be firing on all cylinders. 1st round upset is real possibility. MG and AV better play their cards right and get this team ready.

we can beat them
it would be a rival series
the team won't have to travel as far to play (same goes for the fans!!)

If we go all the way... IF, the likelihood of playing Philadelphia or Boston is very high, and we can't go into that series a beat up team. Philadelphia would pretty much Chicago us to a win if we had no gas left.

I would like to play Phoenix, Calgary, Dallas in first round.
teams I fear are Sharks, Ducks, Nashville and maybe the Kings.
Chicago still has a great chance to make the playoffs. I woulndn't mind playing Calgary, for the short travel time. But whoever we end up getting in the first round is fine with me.

True dat, now we're the new gold standard of the Western Conference, regular season wise at least. Let's back it up in the playoffs!
IMO Chicago OR Calgary are both by far the most entertaining 1st round matchups. Great rivalries, one is perhaps reviving with the Flames doing better as of late, one is still roaring with the Hawks staying in the mix.
I like our chances against either team given our current positions, but of course anything can happen in the playoffs. The fact that the winner of VAN-CGY series always went on to the cup finals makes me wanna play the Flames. OTOH, overcoming the adversity when facing Chicago would be a huge lift, so that'd be nice too. Either way, there's a potentially great start to a cup run, being on the winning side of a great rivalry would certainly get the team going.

The Canucks have unfinished business with the Blackhawks. Ideally, Buttfugly, Ladd, Versteeg and the rest of the punks would still be there to get their asses handed to them in the first round, but it's still Chicago.
The true payback would have been when Vancouver destroys them on the scoreboard and avenges the dirty plays (Ladd elbow on Kesler, Bolland slewfoot on D. Sedin, Buttfugly running Luongo). However, forcing them to sit at home watching the Canucks march through the playoffs will be pretty sweet as well.

Alain Vigneault does not have the skill as a coach to take this or any team through the playoffs to the cup.
Because Vigneault as a coach is not able to control a game by effective coaching decisins. He is left in the dust after a few games by the opposing coach once he has the Canucks game down. AV's style also relies heavily on the physical cost his players pay to play AV's style. No tough guy equates to no worries for other teams once they have had enough of the Canucks buzzing in their face.
Vancouver gets ousted by Anaheim this year, AV is fired. (finally)
Vancouver wins the Cup in 2012.
