Nothing directly to do with the Whitecaps but I see Costa Rica (with Christian Bolanos and Kendall Waston both starting) beat the US 2-0 in the States.  That's gotta make them feel good.

Saw the highlights. Two beautifully taken goals. Didn't see if either of the 'Caps were on the pitch though. Still, any time the US loses is a good day. It isn't quite Italy or Portugal, but it's up there.

On the European front, WTF is wrong with Holland? Granted, France is a great side, but they were destroyed....

Waston played the entire match while Bolanos was subbed off in the 2nd half. Good to see Waston has established himself as a fixture on the national team (Bolanos was already a regular for a while before he joined the Whitecaps).

Had to be nice for KW to be part of a clean sheet against the likes of Dempsey and Altidore....

Terrific effort by the men's side in a friendly against Jamaica tonight. the lads were full value for a 2-nil victory over the Jamaicans. Canada controlled possession and were on the front foot the entire match.

The one downer was a straight red to Alphonso Davies, who kicked out at a Jamaican defender after a hard (but legal) tackle. Phonsie was obviously embarrassed after losing his cool, but it didn't cost the side. Chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Was too sick to go to the game on Saturday.  The possession stats states that RSL had the majority of it, but yet some have said the game was clearly in Vancouver's favour?  If someone can give a biopic of the game.

It finally feels that the Whitecaps are actually legit contenders this year.  Speedy forwards, strong defenders, good goaltender, decent midfield (Laba is a major loss regardless of who has been brought in).  Lots of young players who will only get better with time.... Nerwinski, Parker, Davies, Ibini, Reyna.

It seems the Whitecaps will be very competitive for the next handful of years.

I watched from 20th minute to 85th and I thought Vancouver had a slight edge. We got the W because of some great stops by Ousted though when the game was tied or only 2-1.

David is spectacular.

1st place up for grabs tonight and the boys have defended our home fort pretty well. Reyna and Davies are speedy wingers heading the right direction and only getting better. Parker and Waston are a dream center half duo in the back line. The team is deep in the bench too with Ibini, Ghezzal, Williams, De Jong who started in place of Harvey I'm guessing to rest up for the upcoming weekend match. They are a serious contender and threat to win it all and they deserve it. Reyna and Hurtado finished off beautiful chances and Shea had a MOTM performance. Playing all over the place and being a constant threat with the ball. It's the Caps' time to shine!

Big test coming up on Saturday.

'Caps host Columbus, who are sitting in 4th place in the East. The Crew don't have a good away record, so this is definitely a winnable match for Vancity. Meanwhile, both Portland and Seattle are traveling, (RSL and Dallas respectively) so this is a chance for the 'Caps to put a bit of distance between themselves and their closest rivals.

After this weekend, the closest rival could very well be Sporting KC. Sporting, who have not lost at home this season, host New England, who have not won on the road this season. Like the Whitecaps, Sporting have games in hand over the bulk of the Western clubs, although the Red Bulls will be in KC next Wednesday to account for one of those.

The only negatives I can find for yesterday's game was the poor showing by Davies.  Maybe it's just I tend to focus on him more due to his potential.  In any case, he wasn't as quick as before and didn't seemed as "on the ball" as he is usually.

Perhaps the lack of a true playmaking MF on the pitch?  Maybe because he actually started the match?  He seems to be most effective when he's off the bench, going up against some tired legs, then receiving the ball from long distance and just sprinting down the sides, then cutting in.  Or maybe he is just still 16 and he has played quite a bit of soccer when you include the international games.

There was also a slight miscommunication in the 2nd half when Minnesota was pressing between Parker and Ousted.  Nothing major, but you still got David Ousted just yelling at Tim Parker for heading the ball when the GK want to catch it, lol.

The Whitecaps only had possession for like 40% of the time, and maybe it has to do with the counter-attack style of the team and the team not starting Bolanos, Mezquida (came on later), Techera.... they can potentially be picked apart by really solid teams like the Chicago Fire FC.

Nerwinski is a beauty

Yep. It took him a couple of matches to round into form, but he's looking like a great pick up. Really happy with the way Tchani has fit in as well.

Nice to get the full three points last night, but can I say: Parker? WTF? I guess he kind of made up for it with the block late in the game, but that was brutal.

Much better performance from Techera last night as well. I was starting to worry about him. DeJong is looking good too. I think the competition between him and Harvey can only be good for the team as a whole.

Even though they're sitting atop the table, the 'Caps really need to take care of business against the slumping Sounders. Both Portland and Sporting have what look to be easy match-ups today, home to Orlando City and LA Galaxy respectively. KC actually have a game in hand on Vancouver. (although the 'Caps have a game in hand over the Timbers and the Sounders, who have the same point total as Sporting with 44)

It looks like next Satuday's visit to Kansas might just decide who finishes in first place in the West, although with our Cascadia rivals only four points back and RSL still within striking distance, the 'Caps could conceivably finish well down the table, especially with 4 or their 5 remaining matches away from BC Place.
