Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 The Vancouver Canucks needed a new AHL affiliate after the Manitoba Moose moved to St. John's, N.L., and became the top farm team for the Winnipeg Jets. The Chicago Wolves required new NHL affiliation after their former parent club, the Atlanta Thrashers, were sold to True North Sports and Entertainment and relocated to Winnipeg. On Monday what seemed to be the ideal match became official, as the Canucks entered into a new AHL affiliation agreement with Chicago that runs through the 2012-13 season. "We look forward to this new venture with the Chicago Wolves," Canucks GM Mike Gillis said Monday. "The Canucks have placed great importance and resources in developing prospects and have seen positive results to date, including the likes of Alex Burrows, Ryan Kesler and Chris Tanev. Besides the fact that it would greatly ease travel to and fro, it would probably boost the farm team's attendance, when fans have a chance to see the up-and-coming Canucks. It would also allow fans who cannot afford NHL tix, to see some of 'our team'. I saw a suggestion last month, that Calgary and Vancouver may share a farm team. Is that a possibility, or too much of a conflict? Obviously, Abby is closer to Calgary than many places, so they aren't likely to give it to Vancouver. If we get Chicago, I'd like to see them called the Canucks. Well, maybe not. They will need community support, so we might as well not tick the community off.
