I wasn't a fan of Connauton being paired with Baumgartner at the beginning of last season, but that was when Baumer was unmotivated and was pretty much pissed off at getting cut (not knowing his role of the aging vet that was supposed to show our young guys how to do it). i might feel more comfortable with him paired with Kevin this season, but I'd rather Kevin be paired with Tanev (if he doesn't make the nucks) or Sauve. let him get some chemistry with a potential partnet on the canucks in the future, not someone who he will be leaving in the minors in a year or 2 with no hope of being reunited.

I seem to recall this as well, that Baumer may not have been as motivated to do a good job and act as a veteran role model for the young D in Manitoba last year. Hence my surprise when we retained him. Honestly I wished we could have kept Lee Sweatt for that role but he must have wanted to get a bigger opportunity elsewhere.

Hopefully Baumer is more engaged next year, as I still remember his angry comments about being cut from the Canucks at training camp. Otherwise there isn't much point in signing a disgruntled veteran who might not even be interested in playing hard and leading the way for the young guys in Chicago.

I agree that it might be better for Tommernes to stay in Sweden for one more year as we can afford to not rush him into the AHL. He's also under contract to Frolunda for one more year so I could see the Canucks letting him honour his contract. We already have some depth on the Wolves' D too, with guys like Baumgartner, one of Parent or Sulzer (perhaps even both), Sauve, Connauton, Erixon, Matheson and Polasek too. Tanev could potentially start in the AHL too so there might be even more of a logjam on the back end.

It's so nice to come onto a parent club's board and actually see their fans excited or at least happyy to talk about the Wolves. Especially since the last club's 2 fans wanted to blame Chicago for everything under the sun from global warming to their team leaving...AGAIN.Anyway it's nice to see you guys actually taking an interest in the Wolves and wanting them to do well.Theo....I think you are on the right path with your line-up, but I think you'll find Tim Miller in the line-up for his pk ability. He scored, I want to say 3 or 4, shorties last year on a team that was absolutely dismal on the pk. Kid plays hard every shift and has some nice ability as well. While I can't say much about the vancouver prospects for a lack of knowledge on many of them, the ones I do know about will really mesh well with the Wolves. I've been a Wolves season ticket holder for almost 15 years now and will be happy to answer any questions about anything you want to know.
The Canucks had probably one of the best minor league affliate relationship with the Moose. Hopefully the same will happen with the Wolves.

Welcome to the board! We will probably be relying on a lot of your and other wolves fans' opinions throughout the year on our prospects.

Quite honestly, when the question was posed to me about who would fit here in Chicago,my comment was Vancouver almost immediately. The one thing that made me think that is the philosophy that Vancouver has in regards to their minor league affiliate. The Wolves have one mission statement and it does not vary one iota....anything less than the Calder Cup is unacceptable. The brainchildren in Atlanta argued with us Wolves fans forever about how because the Wolves wanted to actually win....that their prospects were being hurt by that. That they weren't being developed properly or at all. Vancouver has always given it's affiliate the tools to win including signing veteran players for the affiliate. Whenever the Moose came here to play I always hated it because I knew it would be a hard game. One thing that could be interesting to watch this year in how blechhawks fans react to this partnership. If you haven't figured it out....I'm not a hawks fan at all,too many reasons to go into now but believe me when I say I can't stand that team...to the point where my personal name for them is the craphawks( hope I can say that on here). So I guess the next question is pretty simple.... can we drop the puck soon?

Welcome to CDC axecrew! It's nice seeing more Wolves fans on the board. I'm sure you'll be getting tons of questions from Canucks fans once the Wolves' season starts and they're ripping up the AHL. wink.gif

And anybody who hates the Hawks is fine with us... it's great to know that there are people in Chicago who despise that team too. biggrin.gif

Hopefully the Wolves will be coming out here to Abbotsford to play the Heat at least four games this season, same as they did last year. I am/was a huge Shirokov fan, and made a point of buying ticket packages so I could watch him play live. I plan on doing the same thing this year. I'm sorry we won't see Shiro this season but the Heat vs Moose games were a blast and I'm sure the Wolves will pack the arena when they're here as well. Abby is close enough to Vancouver so we get good attendance when the Canucks prospects are in town. CJOB Winnipeg did a magnificent job of broadcasting the home games, and streaming them. I never missed a game and I hope there's a Chicago station that can do the same thing this year. Winnipeg Free Press and The Sun also did a great job with in-depth articles about players and their games. I'll really miss them!

I think the forward lines would be more like this...

Sweatt-Hodgson/Ebbett-Mancari

Archibald-Schroeder-Haydar

Anthony-Doell-Rodin

Duco-Schnieder-Volpatti

Miller-Rai

I think the Canucks will only keep one of Hodgson, Ebbett or Mancari as an extra forward as they will likely keep 2 extra dmen. This is assuming everyone is healthy. Oreskovich's spot is up for grabs too and could change the roster. I like Rodin, but the guys ahead of him that I listed are solid AHLers. Rodin could play well and move up, but with his latest injury, I'm not if that happens right away. Duco could even be ahead of Anthony with decent AHL stats and adds a physical element to the 3rd line, but that may hurt Anthony's development. I could replace Duco with Archibald if Archibald's offense doesn't translate into the AHL. I just wanted to add some size and toughness to that line.

I hope MacTavish is good for the young guys in Chicago and gets their offense rolling. Our farm teams have never really been one of the higher scoring teams in the AHL, come to think of it. Under Vigneault, Arniel and Noel they've always been low-scoring clubs with a defense-first mindset, likely due to the dearth of talent on the roster. Hopefully we see those guys rack up the points and really develop their offensive game.
As i'm sure you can tell by this forum we love our prospects, just look at cody hodgson's thread over 300pages i know a lot of us are wondering where we can find wolves related news, is there a newspaper for articles during the season, radio that broadcasts games online and highdef highlights for games? I noticed most of the highlights on wolves tv were lowdef. The highlight packs are quite good, just wondering if anyone else does them.

I was impressed with the play by play guys they were quite good for ahl commentators i was expecting a lot worse. Hopefully this affiliation can benefit everyone for years to come welcome to CDC!

Regards, Stexx
Truthfully the coverage here is lacking...problem is being in a major city with bears, bulls, hawks, cubs and sox. The Chicago Sun-Times does have a reporter at home games so there is the occasional article, but most times its just a blub in the print edition.

There is no radio coverage, but going to the Wolves website will allow you to listen to the game online.

All Wolves games are on tv including playoffs and the best place I've found in the past for highlights is to go to the fan site wolfkeeper.org, it's run by an off-ice official and when i was still registered there they had a section called on the ice where they would have game day threads. Usually inside those threads he would post highlights from the tv broadcast and sometimes full games.

The pbp guy is Jason Shaver and his partner is analyst Billy Gardner. Gardner played in the NHL for a number of yearsd for the hawks and also Hartford. One thing I can tell you about him is he pulls no punches and tells it like it is, play well and he'll say so.....play like you don't give a crap and he will call you out on the air. Since he played the game back in the 80's he does a good job of keeping fans informed without talking over their heads.

Kitty....the Wolves will play 4 games in Abbotsford this year.I would suspect only 2 trips tho, but who knows. They usually go up and play back to back games there.

Hey friends.

I know MacTavish is still the guy the Canucks want despite the story the Vancouver Sun ran today. He just needs to sign the contract, and it will be announced soon. No idea if he's dragging his feet but I don't see any other candidates besides him.

Hopefully something more concrete is heard in the next few days!

Thanks Axe. Yes, it seems all the AHL teams that visit Abbotsford play back-to-back games. Must be a bit tough on the visiting teams, but they fly in to Abbotsford and that must be a bit easier than riding a bus. (Do the teams in the East still do that?) I've been really impressed with the level of hockey in the AHL. It's great fun and I'm looking forward to the season start.
