Our line up of prospects even with the waiver is pretty pale in comparison to the rest of the teams. No real top prospects. Been like this for years....

Wolves added 2 more forwards signing Riley Emmerson & Trevor Kell this morning. Emmerson is very tough & Kell spent LY in Italy.

If I haven't already mentioned it in this thread (and I don't think I have), I'm really happy Arniel's back coaching our farm team. Ultimately I want him to be our NHL coach once AVs contract is done.

Abbotsford Heat!

GTFO Calgary prospects. We don't want you here.

This will be the NEXT BIG COUP for the Aquilini's. Gettin' our baby Canucks a more permanent home in ABBY is one of their MUST haves. Local papers report that the Aquilinis are making enquiries into purchasing the arena where the Heat play. I see an NHL franchise goin' to Seattle soon. With direct flights to Chicago daily from there...a Seattle-based franchise would definitely covet an affiliation with the Wolves & their advantageous hub in Chicago...that could link-up to anywhere else in North America...in a jiffy.

The 'Lames? Well...I don't care where their farm-team ends up...but judgin' by the composition of the 'Lames current roster...all it will take is a little MONEY to move 'em out. NO secret that the City of Abbotsford wants 'em out. They're tired of this affiliation. The City of Abbotsford owns the arena & is getting drained by the Heat's ugly financial situation...which the City foolishly agreed to SUBSIDIZE. Kind of like the City of Glendale & the Pheonix Coyotes' situation. When an exit strategy is finally negotiated...things will be much better for all concerned.

IF the baby-Canucks ever get installed locally...& with improvements to traffic flow via upgrades to the highway exit(s) & better parking options.....Abby could possibly fill the joint & even wait-list season's tickets. Fingers-crossed people?

Between the AHL signings and the Canuck players/prospects it sounds like the Wolves will have a ton of players to choose from this year. Anyone want to guess at their opening night lineup?

My guess:

Rodin - Schroeder - Kassian
Sterling - Ebbett - Haydar
Miller - Longpre - Davies
B. Sweatt - Alexandre Mallet - A. Gordon

Connauton - Tanev
Joslin - Mullen
Sauve - Matheson

Lack
Climie

- Desbiens and Pinizzotto would be the extra forwards, Polasek and Brad Hunt as spare D.
- Matson, Archibald, Friesen, Anthony, Rai and Tochkin probably are with the K-Wings unless there are injuries (hope they send Schneider down too). Same with Peter Andersson and John Negrin.
- The Wolves have a lot of depth this year.

Here's my take:

Sterling - Schroeder - Kassian
Rodin - Ebbett - Haydar
Miller - Friesen - Desbiens
Sweatt - Pinnizotto - Gordon
Davies

Connauton - Tanev
Joslin - Mullen
Sauve - Polasek
Matheson

Lack
Climie

Schroeder gets what he needs, lots of ice time, a very good sniper to feed passes to, and a giant body guard to make space for him. Kassian gets plenty of offensive opportunity, and will natural fall into a power role as he will have to defend his diminutive linemates.

Rodin would have been nice along Schroeder, but would do well to learn from playing with a couple solid vets.

Friesen would be fun to see as a third line center, with Miller and Davies also in the lineup there are plenty of fallback options if he doesn't do well. Desbiens and Miller are very solid bottom six guys who can teach Friesen a lot.

Thought about putting Archie in and bumping Sweatt to 13th forward, but Sweatt is farther along and his speed could be very useful in a checking role. Gordon will need to continue to refine his bottom six game in order to attempt to see NHL action again. It would be fun to see Mallet crack the 4th line, but we'll see, Pinnizotto should be a great fit and will help make Sweatt feel a whole lot more comfortable out there as a 4th liner.

Davies would likely be the most skilled guy left out, although Longpre would also work.

Connauton and Tanev, as well as Sauve and Polasek, have worked before for the Wolves. Throw the new guys together and see what happens. Matheson is solid and also makes the team. Blain could be interesting, but the Wolves will already have plenty of fire power from the blueline.

Lack starts and Cannata heads to the K-Wings to avoid being a backup.

In all honesty though, Kassian's notwithstanding, that's one tiny top 6.

@theshaves: Quick PPG Wolves Dman Matt McCready short side glove side on Jake Allen. Assists to Swede Peter Andersson & Kellan

@Chicago_Wolves: Defenseman Matt McCready gets the game's first tally and gives the #chicagowolves a 1-0 lead over Peoria at the 11:36 mark of the 1st period

@Chicago_Wolves: Rookies Peter Andersson and Kellan Tochkin get credited for the helpers on McCready's power-play strike.

Nice to see Cannata play well against one of the AHL's best goalies.

Also good to see Mallet drop the gloves, and Andersson pick up an assist. I hope they can both make the team.

This was obviously far from Chicago's opening night roster, so the result doesn't really matter. Peoria had a much better lineup, dressing guys like Peluso, Grachev, and Allen.

Also Tochkin getting an assisnt, i know he is a long shot from making the NHL but I hope he makes the wolves this year.
He also scored the only shootout goal for the wolves if I'm correct.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

Goals from Sterling, Anthony, Archibald, Mullen, Gordon, and Sauve. Tanev and Schroeder each had assists, Derek Joslin with two. Patrick Mullen with 1G 2A. Great start for our main Wolves team!

Mallet is a late-bloomin' "diamond in the rough" pick.... just like Burrows was. It's pretty early in evaluations ....but it seems like he may be another happy surprise for the Wolves' & the 'Nucks. He's both skilled & gritty....& his character is a real plus. This guy gives his team a spark. I'm a fan.
