Luckily, for every idiot causing problems, there are 50 cameras preserving the evidence.

It will take a while to track them down, but there will be a ton of charges laid as a result of this crap.

I bet most of the main offenders will be posting pics on their facebook pages of themselves dancing on a cop car or starting a fire etc.......

What an embarrassment for the entire city.

Georgia and Homer declared 'illegal assembly' zone; man falls off viaduct outside Rogers Arena

By Ian Austin, Sam Cooper, Cheryl Chan, The Province

Police have shut down bridges coming into downtown Vancouver as violence continue to engulf parts of the downtown core.

The post-game riot which erupted after the Canucks lost 4-0 to the Boston Bruins has left injuries, burnt-out cars, shattered storefronts and numerous arrests in its wake.

The police turned up the confrontation level at 9:40 p.m. when the crowd successfully torched two police vehicles at the corner of Georgia and Hamilton.

As the police cars burned, police moved in quickly to isolate the establish a perimeter around the burning cruisers.

Justin Perry from Delta was tear gassed as he tried to get out of the area at Seymour and Granville Streets.

"It's going to be just like '94," Perry said. "People are drinking, doing drugs. It's going to be a long night from the cops."

Parry said he feels a little bit trapped, as police have shut off the streets at both ends, corralling people in with the bad apples.

Georgia and Homer, declared an "illegal assembly" zone, has been cleared but the scene remained fairly dramatic with police in shields with batons, backed by a line of officers, as four fires burned in the

background.

Along the Robson Street corridor, Vancouver police are using flash-bang grenades, while angry mobs throw chairs back at them in retaliation.

Officers are striking some of the people below the knees with clubs.

The BMO office west of the Canada Post building had five giant windows smashed.

On Granville and Smythe, American Apparel was completely boarded up, while on Robson Street, some angry fans threw an object through the window of Café Crepe.

There are reports peope have broken into the downtown Hudson's Bay and are looting the store.

Earlier, a group of drunk young men filming themselves with camera phones jumped on top of an overturned car on Georgeia Street in front of the Canada Post building, kickstarting the riot.

Egged on by cheering fans they doused the car with some kind of accelerant and lit in ablaze.

Within a few minutes the car has become fully engulfed and started making explosive sounds. A second car was also torched, sending black plumes and acrid smoke into the air.

A group of three young men wearing balaclavas and black clothing were seen high-fiving as they walked away.

Just outside GM Place, a man fell over 50 feet from the pedestrian walkway onto the ground below.

"I heard a bang like someone was shot," said Province editor Jonathan McDonald.

"He hit the awning above the ticket booth and then bounced off it and landed prone on the ground with one arm sticking straight up."

He was rushed to hospital.

Back near the fan sites and Robson Street, fans seem to be hungry to let out their disappointment and cause some destruction . Many young men can be heard saying "alright, it's on now."

Some in the crowd began chanting 'riot!' as a large number of the crowd now stuck around for the violence as opposed to a hockey celebration.

Parkades at the corner of Richards and Georgia became bird's-eye views. Hundreds of blue-clad fans hung over the fences of the parkade to watch the drama of breaking glass and spewing smoke.

Vancouver Police officers have donned riot gear and some officers on horseback tried to make their way through the crowd to try to establish order.

The ER and intenive care unit at Vancouver General Hospital has declared a Code Orange as it became swamped with a flood of patients.

Staff has set up triage in the parking lot. One man who was stabbed in the neck was just admitted.

Police have no idea how many arrests have been made as hundreds of officers moved to and from what police called "hotspots"

Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness said officers were dealing with people determined to commit criminal acts

"It's unfortunate that this will be the lasting memory of what was a great Stanley Cup run in Vancouver,"

Police estimate the crowd peaked at 70,000 people arriving much earlier through the day.

The mood began turning ugly in the last minutes of the third period when young men surged towards the giant screen on Georgia Street and began hurling bottles at the massive screen.

Along the outskirts of the fan zone on Dunsmuir and Homer Street, brawls broke out.

Public drinking had been evident on Granville Street and around the outdoor viewing areas before and during the game, despite a heavy police presence.

Meanwhile, the scene was much different in Surrey with police on ground saying there was nothing to report following the game.

The throngs of fans who gathered in the fan zone near the Surrey Central Skytrain stop left quietly after the final whistle and those that did remain were orderly.

Surrey mayor Dianne Watts said Surrey will be sending police officers to Vancouver to help control rioters in the downtown core.

There seems to be mayhem outside the Bay at Seymour and Georgia as see on CTV. There are large crowds outside the Bay and cars on fire.

So far the cops have not moved in yet.

But why are those people standing around taking pictures? Why are they not leaving?
