1.) Trade Luongo or Schnieder.
I would prefer to keep schnieder over luongo because Schnieder is still very young and entering his prime however because of the Lu's NTC, if one goalie goes, I see it being Schnieder. I am completely lost by the people saying we should keep Schnieder for next season and just let his contract expire and get nothing in return...Hello, McFly! Sure we need a good back up goalie but not of Schnieder's calibre. He was riding the pine in Game7. We could have used a top 6 forward out there instead of having Schnieder on the bench. Also, Schnieder's trade value it through the roof right now.
So this is number 1. If you can't trade Luongo, Gillis , you have to trade Schnieder so we can get something before we lose him.
1.)Lose Ballard. I like Ballard and don't think he was given a chance to show what he is made of. For some reason, he was not able to clique with our organization. After this season, I don't see becoming that 4.2 million defenceman that we would want him to be. It is too bad because he is a great guy but hes definitely got to go.
2.)Re-sign Bieksa and Ehrhoff. Both had some great games and some struggles in this post-season however, they are 2 defenceman we shouldn't let go.
3.)Don't re-sign Salo unless it is a contract around 1.5mill or less. Although good when healthy, he is constantly a liability with his injuries.
4.) Alberts is not a crucial part on this team. Doesn't matter if he re-signs or not. With Rome signed and Tanev being lights out in this postseason, Alberts is expendable. If he does not re-sign though, Gillis should be getting a D-man for the bottom pairing.
1.)Re-sign Hansen, Lapierre, Higgins
-Hansen: Had a great series against chicago and has been a key part of the 3rd line's success in the postseason and during the season.
-Lapierre: started off a bit slow but has proven to be a very reliable centerman on our team. If Lapierre is ok with playing on the 4th line, I would love to see him back. He would allow us to play our 4th like for 10 minutes or more every game.
-Higgins: The most underrated player this offseason. He have been very consistent and you can tell he is a very smart player. In general, I think he had a great post season and even in Game 7 against Boston, he played very well with Kesler. Really hope he re-signs as well.
2.)Wouldn't mind seeing Sammy let go. I don't see this happening, but if I were GM, I would let him go. He is very streaky and even before he got injured this postseason, he was ineffective. He had a horrible season and is not a valuable player on this team. However I think we will have to stick with his contract for one more year.
3.)Torres had a good year but there are better players out there who will play the 3rd line. Glass and Tambellini are also expendable.
4.) Fill in the holes. Get a calibre 3rd liner, and build a solid, more physical 4th line around Lapierre.
This is Gillis' homework:
Sedin Sedin Burrows***
Raymond Kesler Higgins
_______ Malhotra Hansen
_______ Lapierre _______
Lui or Schnieder
New Back up
***I would really like to see a big physical player play of the Sedin line. If canucks were to trade Schnieder, maybe we can get a solid PF who would be able to bring some consistency to the Sedins in physical games. Then we could more Burr to the 3rd and have one hell of a checking line
