weak links that cost canucks the cup

Julien outwitting AV just shows how bad AV really is.

He's fine for the regular season when your playing a different team every night. When it comes to the playoffs a coach has to be able to make adjustments over a 7 game series to counter the other team's adjustments. It becomes somewhat of a chess match.

Ever notice how Canucks seem to always win game 1? And usually game 2? It's because in most cases they are the better team. But by game 3 the opposing coach has made adjustments to counter the Canucks play. AV refuses to make his own adjustments and just sticks to it and the Canucks end up struggling or losing games 3 and 4. Then the series is a coin flip from there.

I don't feel confident with him as coach no matter what team we ice next season.

Weak links that cost us

Hank and Danny - no goals and poor defense in our zone

Erhoff - sucked in the final series

Powerplay - we needed to get Hank and Danny away from Chara when we had last line change. We needed traffic in front of net.

We needed a power forward to drive to the net and pound into Timmy T. Our forwards are too soft.

The Sedins finished 2nd and 4th in total scoring for the entire playoffs, we had 4 players in the top ten. The Sedins aren't going to win every series for us, that is why we needed the fourth line to be much better. If at the start of the playoffs we asked all the fans that if the Sedins both finished in the top 5 in scoring for the entire playoffs would you feel that they stepped up, the answer would in most cases be YES. The point being is that they DID perform, they were both top 5 in scoring.

The bottom line is that the analysis of what went wrong must run deeper than the play of the Sedins. Simply put, we ran out of gas, due to injuries, because the fourth line didn't carry enough of the load. So duplicate our 3rd line so we have two excellant bottom two lines, tweek the Kesler line, and we're good.

IMO - there were 2 obvious weak links for canucks in this years playoffs.

2) the Sedins need to work on one thing this summer. they are 80% complete players. the other 20 % they lack is the physical game. they absolutely have to learn how to throw and take a check. more weak links later, these are the main 2 right now. the cup should be at 888 Griffiths, but not for 1 mainly, and 2 indirectly.

1. Hamhuis. Did he NOT hear Gillis call him our most important d-man?!? Then why in the hell did he go and injure himself?

2. Horton. Was KO'd by Nate Thompson well before Rome hit him. He went down, stayed down, and made sure Rome wasn't coming back. And look, now he's fine. Gfys, Horton!

3. Malhotra. Heard of a visor? Now you can't even see one. Good job.

4. Hodgson. Hey, um, where is some flash and/or skill? You apparently have some. Where is it?

5. Samuelsson. I thought we GOT RID of Demo...

6. Edler. Future Norris winner? Not when you get hurt all the time while looking utterly lost in your own zone most of the time.

7. Luongo. Bah you've simply GOT to come up with more saves, yo.

8. Future Canuck draftpicks. You are all going to be busts. Just like Cody no-show Hodgson and Jordan The Midget Schroeder.

9. Gillis. Where are the BOLD MOVES?!???

10. AV can't coach gravy and cheese into his poutine. SCRAM CHUMP!!!!

Suck. A big pile of overrated award-winning suck. Pffft....

We just need to avoid playing a team with top shutdown dmen cause chicago with keith/seabrook, nashville with weber/suter and boston with chara all shutdown the sedins these playoffs. Only sj with no top shutdown pair were the sedins able to go wild on. Too bad we didn't play tampa bay! :emot-parrot:

  • 9 months later...

Boston had an easier path playing small teams with no depth (MTL/TB), and Philly totally bombed. If we played the teams they played we'd have rolled, even with the travel. If they played the teams we played they would not have made the Finals.

Our fans were weaker and didn't show the singlemindedness of their fans. Our media stabbed our team in the back, their media supported them no matter what, journalistic integrity be damned.

When we needed to start Schneider, in game 6, it was impossible because of Luongo's contract. Best thing would've been to leave Lu in Vancouver after game 5, but obviously not something that could be done.

Too many injuries on the blueline to overcome, especially with how healthy they were able to keep their team.

IMO - there were 2 obvious weak links for canucks in this years playoffs.

1)  AV abandoned the goalie rotation that saw them win the Jennings,  instead he went exclusively with RL1.  big mistake.

what happened is that RL1 would play 2 strong games, then 2 average or bad games.  that happened through the entire playoffs.

1st round, 3 good games, then 2 meltdowns.  2nd & 3rd rounds, same but the offense covered for the bad games more.   4th round, 2 good games, 2 meltdowns, a good game, 2 more bad games.  the point is that RL1 is not a bad goalie, but happens to be like a baseball starter -- needs to play on 3 or 4 days rest.  some goalies don't need this (Thomas, Rinne etc)  for whatever reason ...RL1 does.

it worked really well when he was being spelled off by CS35 during the season.    the Jennings is not joke.  but for some inexplicable reason, AV decided to abandon this and go with just RL1.  IMO this critical tactical mistake by AV cost canucks the cup.  they were more than strong enough in every other area.    again, RL1 is not a bad goalie, in fact he is a top goalie but ONLY when he is fit and rested.    if not, he is avarage or bad.  this is entirely the coaching staff's fault.  you had a young athletic dynamic skilled goalie in CS35 who rode the pine almost the entire way.  AV is squarely to blame on this. &  I am amazed that MG did not input with the obvious, like back around the 1st round ....

2)   the Sedins need to work on one thing this summer.  they are 80% complete players.  the other 20 % they lack is the physical game.  they absolutely have to learn how to throw and take a check.  they have to get away from "going into corners with a basket of eggs and not breaking any" ... as was said once about another swede.  they must develop checking skills, so that if and when their offense gets shut down, as happened in round 4, they are still able to contribute in other ways, which is what any versatile pro ashould do.   it's called versatility.  it's called multitasking.  the one dimensional game they play (pure offense) is obviously not enough for the realities of the nhl playoffs.   MG likes to give his players exit assignments, tasks to work on to be more complete players.   this should be the Sedins'.

more weak links later, these are the main 2 right now.  the cup should be at 888 Griffiths, but not for 1 mainly, and 2 indirectly.

&  sorry for starting a new topic for this, but I haven't seen the "rest and recuperation factor" for RL1, only the incessant bashing, which is totally wrong, IMO.

well this year let us hope that if Lou is installed again as the starter by the coaches (not by MG, and why not) ..... for the first game of the marathon 2 month tv fest (with vey bad deep psychology mind control manipulation beer advertising, and other very bad manipulative advertising that makes you want to listen on the radio or not at all) ..... (that is the SCP... ) and plays real bad, they do not wait a long time to play the top quality goalie they do have in CS35, who is their actual number one goalie (if you asked the players most likely, also) ..... like, uh, ..... hey ...

secondly, I like using big strong ZK in RK17's front of the crease spot during pp's which I guess is why AV spoke with the pp coach Brown yesterday.

all goalie decisions must be made by MG, not by AV who as a quebecer will seem to choose a bad Lou over a top class CS and who knows why but it could be the Vatican influence, darth sidious and all.

and ... uh .... hey ...

______________

no seriously. going to game seven and fizzling after 2 months of gruelling TV beer commercials that are full of slow motion manipualtion of images and imprinting of memes designed to turn anyone into a ......... (vegetable ..) is the real story there. like, uh ... why?

just think. you coulda been doin sometin useful all dat time ..... like what. hey who knows, anything you know ...

like maybe doing art or something in your studio. haha. (esp for 3 hrs during game times, ya know ...)

but then you wouldn't have been watching all those mentally dangerous beer and cdn tire ads wouldja eh?

oh yeah, the one that goes .... what is a <<real canadian>> ...... and the 20 something punk starts up on this vile parody of what makes the country so great, but the beer has nothing to do with any of that, except that this beer product is cleverly named "Canadian" ..., so right there you're being told to identify that beer with "the greatness of the country" which is like 20 cents short of mind control or not even that.. it should have been banned, except that bad manipulation mind control is legal in north america. anywhere else in the world that crap would be illegal.

_____________

so that is the subtle reason why the hockey team ("go, les verts et bleus" ...) (allez y .. allez y ...) went to game 7 of SCP round 4, and then kind of went fffzzzz ..... actually that happened in game 3 when they went fzzz .. and lost 8-1 because they had a <<burned out>> goalie who was letting floaters in .... while the #1 goalie sat on the pine ...)

look when your team is down 3-0 and floaters are going in, you do not ..... <ask the guy> .... if he <feels all right> ...... what you do is you tell your asst coach to take him out back, shoot him, and you put in your other goalie, the #1 guy who should not be riding that pine ..) grrr...

wow. emotion. haha. better switch to footie.

______________

hey does this forum have an advertising thread where they talk about the mind control stuff ...ehh...

of just the plain rotten dynamic of watching playoff hockey on tv sets for like 2 1/2 months, for no actual reason.

_______________

well... here's kind of hoping that FLA finishes in 3rd below the bruins, which sets up a 1st round series (2 vs 7) Bruins vs Ottawa. ... could be <slightly> interesting .....
