[Official] Wii U thread

Adding characters from the Tales series would seem quite appropriate for a Smash Bros game. The side-to-side combat system from Namco-Bandai's RPG franchise could certainly be expanded even further in the next Smash Bros installment.

The problem with the Wii U is that its competition will seemingly be the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360. Unfortunately, Sony and Microsoft still have time to improve their upcoming platforms. Their latest products may be even more powerful, and Nintendo could once again be left behind.

This seems like the exact gameplay from the DS. The only difference is that its one bigger screen and now they finally implement the 360 sticks. I'm pretty disappointed that Nintendo could only come up with this

But because it's being made by Nintendo, it'll sell very well. But then after a couple of years, people will realize how gimmicky it really is, and it'll completely die off like how the Wii did.

Yeah but even though everyone hates on the Wii now, it was actually really fun when it first came out. It seemed really cool with all the motion sensors and wii sports things. Then SSBB....that ate up hours of gameplay. After Brawl there just weren't any good games anymore. I mean, I don't regret buying a Wii, its just it kinda died now.

theres always a possibility, but ps3 released a year after the 360, and has almost the same graphics.

The PS3 is a more powerful system. The problem is when developers are working on a cross-port game, they simply make something that will work on both.

Take a game that is specifically designed to take advantage of the PS3's abilities - such as Uncharted 3 - and you can see the differences.

Developer: Borderlands 2 on Wii U would be amazing

July 16th, 2012

borderlands-2-wii-u.jpg

Developer Gearbox never held back in their praise for the Wii U. They were one of the first developers to come out and fully support the new Nintendo console with Aliens Colonial Marines. In fact, they’ve said numerous times that the Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines will be the best looking one.

In a new interview with Dealspwn, Gearbox founder Brian Martel says he thinks the Wii U is a “really cool platform”, and that it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft and Sony respond to the touchscreen controller with their next gen consoles. They have sort of responded already, with SmartGlass and Sony’s Vita cross-play.

“If Borderlands 2 was on the Wii U, the thing I would be most excited about is inventory management: it would be amazing on that” Martel said about the upcoming Borderlands 2 first person shooter. He added that the artwork on the Wii U would look better because the console can handle higher resolution textures. Borderlands 2 is the sequel to the highly successful Borderlands, and is a cross between a first person shooter and role playing game, where players continuously gather loot and items.

So far, Gearbox is waiting for publisher 2K Games to give a green light for the Borderlands 2 Wii U port. However, 2K Games isn’t in a hurry, they’re waiting to see what happens with the Aliens Colonial Marines Wii U version before investing in more ports.

"Rise of the Guardians" Game May Narrow Wii U Launch Window

BY MICHAEL EPSTEIN | JUL 17, 2012 | 11:45 AM

riseofguardians.jpg

the game is probably crap, but nov 20 sounds about right for a launch date for the wii u.

Rise of the Guardians, a video game tie-in to the upcoming movie of the same name, is expected to come out for Wii U on November 23rd in Europe, according to D3Publisher.

Though Nintendo has said they plan to launch the Wii U before the end of 2012, the console-maker has not made mention of a release timetable for the console or any of its games. The release date for Rise of the Guardians may provide an outside date for the Wii U release window, just in time for Thanksgiving and the critical kickoff to the holiday shopping season.

The game, which is also coming out for Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on the same day, will hit stores just ahead of the film's European theatrical release on November 30th.

As we've mentioned in past articles, video games generally come out in North America a few days before they do in Europe: American retailers expect Rise of the Guardians: The Video Game to launch in North America on November 20th.

In Rise of the Guardians, players take control of childhood legends like Santa Clause, Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Sandman, to fight an evil nightmare-making spirit. The game will feature upgradable abilities and four-player drop-in, drop-out co-op play.

Nintendo has said they plan to reveal their launch plan for the Wii U this fall.

]'ZombiU' multiplayer is a strategic showcase for the Wii U

By Samit Sarkar on July 20, 2012 11:24 am

ZombiU-cricket-bat_large_verge_medium_landscape.jpg

Ubisoft's ZombiU is one of the standout titles of the Wii U's lineup so far, and a recent hands-on demo of its asymmetric local multiplayer mode exhibited the smartest use of the console's capabilities Polygon has seen yet.

ZombiU offers a relatively serious and "realistic" zombie fiction, if that makes sense — it's about using the limited resources at hand to survive in a brutal world, with an atmosphere that's more The Walking Dead than Dead Rising. In that vein, one of its multiplayer modes pits a lone survivor against a zombie boss controlling a variety of the undead.

It's a capture point setup, with the survivor defending his home turf — in the case of the map we played, London rooftops — against the encroaching zombie horde. Three flags are located in the area, and the first side to reach four captures wins the game.

ZombiU-1.jpg

The human plays a zombie-killing FPS on the television, with personal weapons at his disposal including a pistol, shotgun, and crossbow. Strangely, he has to manually reload at all times, even after emptying his clip. (We lost track of the number of times where we forgot to reload and nearly got jumped by a zombie after dry-firing.) He can also find special treats in boxes scattered around the map, such as a turret, mines, and bear traps. Of course, he'll need all the help he can get in order to survive, let alone win.

The zombies that the survivor is attempting to kill are spawned by his opponent, who plays on the Wii U GamePad. It provides a top-down view of the map, giving the undead leader the opportunity to spawn up to 10 zombies anywhere except within the vicinity of the survivor. ZombiU offers varying types of infected: one who heads for the nearest flag; another who just hangs around; two attackers; and a spitter. It's "tower attack," if you will, as opposed to tower defense.

Balance is key in a one-versus-10 mode, and ZombiU's multiplayer designers appear to be on the right track. Capture bars fill up more quickly for the survivor than for zombies, and since the undead boss can't spawn zombies right next to the human, he can stand near a flag and pick off infected as they come his way (or watch as they head for the other flags). But as in the single-player game, one bite means death; once a zombie grabs the survivor, only a vial of antiviral serum will save him from being zombified himself.

This is a much more strategic mode than the ones in traditional survival horror games, where players merely slay hordes of undead. As the human, we sprinted around the map from flag to flag, fending off zombies along the way and scrounging for ammo as much as possible. As the zombie boss, we micromanaged our gang, constantly rearranging and switching out our infected to maximize our chances of dining on fresh brains. And thanks to the Wii U's setup, the GamePad player gets a nice bonus: he can set up his minions around the map, and then look up at the TV to watch them wreak havoc on his opponent.

In fact, that's why Ubisoft Montpellier is restricting this mode to local multiplayer: it's much more fun and engaging when both players are in the same room, with trash talk flying back and forth between them. That's how we played it, and it worked out — we won as both the survivor and as the zombies, which was encouraging from a balance standpoint. It looks like the human race has a fighting chance against the undead horde.

ZombiU is slated to launch with the Wii U this fall

also there will be an online multiplayer "similar to demon souls", so i'm guessing you'll happen accross other players
