Honzik would not have been available in the 7th round. By more than a few publications, they had him a late season riser who had a stellar 2nd half and playoffs. Most had him in the late 2nd and 3rd round; even Bobby Mac's had him #55. Some had him as one of the top 5 goaltenders available, so no, definitely not a 7th round pick.

He is very young, making the draft cut off by a month. Only just last year had a fulltime goalie coach, and after adjusting, he saw the fruits of working on his technique and fundamentals by the end of the season.

This quote really sums it up:

Honzik took his game to a totally different world from where he was to begin the season. And a lot of scouts will say – you take two goalies, one of them is really technically sound and plays really well, but then the other is completely raw skilled, but can compete as well as the goalie with the technically sound skill set – which one do you take? Well you take the one with the raw skill, because imagine how good he’ll be when he actually adds the technique to his game.

It's worth noting that Victoriaville's other goalie, Brandon Whitney, is 6'5, 191 lbs and 7-0 with a 2.43 G.A.A., .903 SV%, and 1 SO this season, and he just won again tonight, so 8-0.

Honzik (5-6, 3.23 G.A.A., .884 SV%, 2 SO) is definitely being challenged and maybe even in danger of losing his #1 spot to this kid ('94).

Definitely a solid tandem...Victoriaville (1st in Q) should be in good shape come playoffs.

Honzik finished his regular season with the Victoriaville Tigres on a high note, stopping all 29 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Rimouski Oceanic. Victoriaville finished with a 44-18-6 record and 4th place overall in the QMJHL. Assuming the standings stay the way they are, Victoriaville will face the Mocton Wildcats in the first round of the QMJHL playoffs.

2011/2012 regular season stats for David Honzik:

43 GP, 22-14-2, 3.49 GAA, .885 Save%, 3 shutouts

Honzik has had a pretty rough 1st round series, as has his Victoriaville Tigres against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. They trail the series 3-0, having been outscored 17-8. Honzik's numbers are downright ugly: 3 GP, 0-2-0, 5.33 GAA and a .804 Save%. Game 4 started a couple minutes ago and Brandon Whitney is in net for the Tigres. Given the circumstances, it seems as if Honzik is done for the season. If the Tigres do make any sort of comeback, you can bet it will be Whitney in between the pipes.

Honzik has had a pretty rough 1st round series, as has his Victoriaville Tigres against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. They trail the series 3-0, having been outscored 17-8. Honzik's numbers are downright ugly: 3 GP, 0-2-0, 5.33 GAA and a .804 Save%. Game 4 started a couple minutes ago and Brandon Whitney is in net for the Tigres. Given the circumstances, it seems as if Honzik is done for the season. If the Tigres do make any sort of comeback, you can bet it will be Whitney in between the pipes.

How is Cape Bretons goaltending situation? I think Honzik may be the kind of guy who doesn't perform well with an equally skilled back up and if he's the head honcho in CB then I believe he'll have a solid year, in Victoriaville he had an up and coming back up who was outplaying him.
