David Honzik Talk

Honzik would not have been available in the 7th round. By more than a few publications, they had him a late season riser who had a stellar 2nd half and playoffs. Most had him in the late 2nd and 3rd round; even Bobby Mac's had him #55. Some had him as one of the top 5 goaltenders available, so no, definitely not a 7th round pick.

He is very young, making the draft cut off by a month. Only just last year had a fulltime goalie coach, and after adjusting, he saw the fruits of working on his technique and fundamentals by the end of the season.

This quote really sums it up:

Honzik took his game to a totally different world from where he was to begin the season. And a lot of scouts will say – you take two goalies, one of them is really technically sound and plays really well, but then the other is completely raw skilled, but can compete as well as the goalie with the technically sound skill set – which one do you take? Well you take the one with the raw skill, because imagine how good he’ll be when he actually adds the technique to his game.

Honzik has huge upside, just give him some time to reach it.

It's worth noting that Victoriaville's other goalie, Brandon Whitney, is 6'5, 191 lbs and 7-0 with a 2.43 G.A.A., .903 SV%, and 1 SO this season, and he just won again tonight, so 8-0.

Honzik (5-6, 3.23 G.A.A., .884 SV%, 2 SO) is definitely being challenged and maybe even in danger of losing his #1 spot to this kid ('94).

Definitely a solid tandem...Victoriaville (1st in Q) should be in good shape come playoffs.

I was looking online for the Super Series Roster for the QMJHL and stumbled across this article about Honzik. I apologize for the errors Google Translator was having a bad day <img src='http://content.forum.canucks.com/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Christopher Gibson, Ondrej Pavelec, Jaroslav Halak, Timo Pielmeier, Robert Mayer, among others, are among the few goaltenders of European origin who have managed to settle in Quebec over the last decade major junior hockey League.More often than otherwise, the formations of the Canadian hockey League turned to the North American talent for this essential position of their alignment. Historically, the Tigers have not is exception. Only Daniel Manzato, a Cerberus of Swiss origin, was developed by the organization in the early 2000s. He spent three seasons in the Bois-Francs.

The selection of David Honzik in the first round, 33rd total, then international draft of the CHL in the summer 2010 had therefore surprised many, including some members of the staff of the team. More than a year later, we see that the Director General Jérôme Mésonéro won his bet. 18 Czech climbed among best doormen of the circuit. In the last playoffs that he really made a name, sweeping almost ' to him only the Titan of Acadie-Bathurst in the first playoff round. His exploits made a choice of third round of the Vancouver Canucks in the last draft.

&quot;I do not think that I would be here if I had decided to remain in Czech Republic.&quot; Ice time is difficult to obtain for the young guards in the Czech circuit. Visibility is also less important and the hours of training are less numerous than the Canada. &quot;Only three players Czechs evolving Europe were selected last draft (Lukas Sedlak, Daniel Pribyl and Dmitrij Jaskin)&quot;, he said.If he said they have found somewhat difficult adaptation to its arrival last year, the picture is completely different this season. In fact, he spent less than a month in Czech Republic last summer.

After the summer camp of the recruits of the Canucks, he remained in Montreal to finalize its preparation with Patrick Villeneuve.&quot;I feel more the language barrier, I have more friends and my girlfriend comes from here.&quot; The Czech Republic I am missing sometimes, but it is much less worse than last year. I like the North American way of life. &quot; My trip to Vancouver, among others, was unforgettable,&quot; said one who grew up in a village of some 4,000 inhabitants.Honzik experienced a first camp somewhat disappointing professional training in Vancouver. On his return from Colombia of British Columbia, he has developed time before running with the Tigers. After a performance sawtooth for several weeks, the Czech finally seems to take its cruise speed.

&quot;My camp was not very conclusive in Vancouver.&quot; Walking, especially for a goalkeeper, is very high. I also found it difficult to receive the advice of a new goalkeeper coach. It was very different. Upon my return from the camp of the Canucks, I was absent mentally. It is now restored. &quot;Match by match, it will better&quot;, he shared.Since his return, Daniel Fréchette, coach of the goalkeepers of the Tigers, keeps a close contact with its counterpart of the Canucks, Roland Melanson. &quot;Every two weeks, I him do a report&quot;. &quot;I am also in contact with Dave Gagnier (the Director of the development of players in the Canucks),&quot; explained Plessisvillois, who had made a similar follow-up with Kevin Poulin and the New York Islanders.&quot;We are very lucky.&quot;

From what coach Yanick Jean, never it is capitalized on a such duo of European players in his career.&quot; They fit perfectly with the philosophy of the organization.&quot; In fact, Petr Sidlik had no need for any adaptation period, and, in large part through David. Although he has had a somewhat difficult start, Honzik is not a straw fire. I also take much of the blame for the start of the season. &quot; It was again, it would possibly more action at the training camp&quot;, he argued.Since Honzik required time off the campaign because of its professional camp, Brandon Whitney saw more action at Tigers camp. &quot; You want preparing Brandon, but perhaps that should have been to give a little more to David&quot;, added Jean.

Honzik, in principle, should play the next two seasons in the Bois-Francs after that, he should be jumping among professionals. Czech to guide the destiny of the team as he did last year.&quot;I want to prove to the leaders of the Canucks can I take a large share of responsibility.&quot; However, one must be careful. Everyone says that we are serious aspiring, but it is not so easy as that. The road to the Cup is long. The way we play since the start of the season, is not sufficient. &quot; It more will be needed to compete with teams such as the Sea Dogs of Saint John&quot;, he concluded.

Honzik finished his regular season with the Victoriaville Tigres on a high note, stopping all 29 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Rimouski Oceanic. Victoriaville finished with a 44-18-6 record and 4th place overall in the QMJHL. Assuming the standings stay the way they are, Victoriaville will face the Mocton Wildcats in the first round of the QMJHL playoffs.

2011/2012 regular season stats for David Honzik:

43 GP, 22-14-2, 3.49 GAA, .885 Save%, 3 shutouts

QMJHL playoffs update for David Honzik:

Honzik has had a pretty rough 1st round series, as has his Victoriaville Tigres against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. They trail the series 3-0, having been outscored 17-8. Honzik's numbers are downright ugly: 3 GP, 0-2-0, 5.33 GAA and a .804 Save%. Game 4 started a couple minutes ago and Brandon Whitney is in net for the Tigres. Given the circumstances, it seems as if Honzik is done for the season. If the Tigres do make any sort of comeback, you can bet it will be Whitney in between the pipes.

How is Cape Bretons goaltending situation? I think Honzik may be the kind of guy who doesn't perform well with an equally skilled back up and if he's the head honcho in CB then I believe he'll have a solid year, in Victoriaville he had an up and coming back up who was outplaying him.
